Meta Quest 3 is launched, betting on mixed reality

This Wednesday (27) the Goal Connect 2023, in Menlo Park, California, an event held to present the latest hardware and software that are being developed by the company that owns the Facebook. This year's edition was expected to reveal more details about the new mixed reality glasses, the goal quest 3. The new equipment presents a revolutionary mix between our world and virtual reality, which enables a variety of immersive experiences, such as playing a virtual piano at your desk or viewing 3D objects inside your living room.

New Meta Quest 3 promises immersion and comfort

Mark Zuckerberg took the stage at Goal Connect 2023 quite excited about what was about to be revealed in more detail in a few moments. As expected, Meta's new virtual reality glasses will now focus on mixed reality, competing directly with the VisionPro da Apple . The presentation demonstrated some of the device's new features and a new layer of immersion that is awaited by enthusiasts.

With launch confirmed for October 10, 2023, the new goal quest 3 promises greater comfort for the user, both when wearing the device and reducing the weight of the equipment, making it possible to use it for longer without neck pain or discomfort. Furthermore, the company is committed to developing the new glasses with never-before-seen immersion in games and applications that will be available since its launch.

Some of the examples presented during the event were a demonstration of the user playing a virtual piano on a real table in their home using the cameras and mixed reality technology of the new device and gameplay excerpts from various games such as Roblox, lego bricktales, Asgard's Wrath 2 and the awaited Assassin's Creed Nexus.

It was also announced that the Xbox CloudGaming will come to goal quest 3 in December. This way, players will be able to experience a series of titles from Xbox via the cloud through the service Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. The demonstration that was presented during the Goal Connect 2023, showed a user playing various titles on the platform through a floating screen that appears in his field of vision while using the new mixed reality glasses.

O goal quest 3 will be sold by US$499,99 (R$2.525,30) in a 128GB version and an edition that will cost US$649,99 (R$3.282,90) with 512GB of internal storage space. Unfortunately, there is no forecast for shipping or sales to Brazil.

More processing and new design

With the aim of providing all the immersion promised in the new goal quest 3, the company that owns the Facebook announced that the new glasses will have twice the processing power of its predecessor quest 2. The device will be the first device to receive the brand new chip Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 da Qualcomm, developed for augmented reality devices. Therefore, the loading time of games and applications will be considerably reduced, several gameplays were presented demonstrating the difference in graphics compared to the previous platform and the new processor will also make it possible to use mixed reality with different software.

The headset's battery life is designed to last two to three hours, which is comparable to quest 2 and higher than quest-pro. Despite the Qualcomm state that the GPU XR2 Gen 2 is 50% more efficient than the previous version, the company chose to prioritize performance over extending battery life.

To keep up with the new processing power, the goal quest 3 will feature the most advanced display with 4K resolution, 2064 x 2208 pixels per eye and technology InfinityDisplay. This new screen on the inside of the glasses will have 30% more resolution compared to the Quest 2 and 25 pixels per degree and 1,218 pixels per inch in its configuration with better image quality. In this way, the device promises greater fluidity in movements and comfort when using applications that require better visualization of details.

Furthermore, the device from the company that owns the Facebook promises the union between customization and comfort in its structure. Thanks to the new lenses of the quest 3, the equipment will be 40% thinner compared to its predecessor, without compromising the depth of visual immersion. With the current design, there will be better weight distribution and a better fit that will adapt to the shape of the user's face and even their hairstyle.

The sound system of goal quest 3 also had an improvement. Whether watching a movie or having a mixed reality workout session, the user will always be surrounded by spatial audio. Promising clarity in details, the glasses will improve their audio performance with 40% greater range and power for a more immersive experience.

The company also introduced during the Goal Connect 2023 a discreet reformulation of the controllers with the TouchPlus protocols for quest 3, which no longer incorporate the rings intended for tracking. Instead, they rely on tracking hands in space. The company claims that advances in tracking technology have made it possible to remove the rings, resulting in more compact and ergonomically pleasing controllers.

Finally, the company introduced some small improvements to improve the user experience. With a new focus wheel feature, you can adjust the distance between lenses while wearing the headset, replacing manual adjustment of the quest 2. The lenses have a narrower profile, and a pair of internal buttons allow you to change the distance of the lenses from your face, which is especially useful for accommodating users who wear prescription glasses.
