Urban mobility goes through a series of factors that are not limited to the simple matter of cars and public transport. Many of these ideas still need to be developed so that as many people as possible will benefit. After all, this is the citizenship we want to build, right? Here are some ideas from Economy of the Future for Cities in the field of Mobility.

In large Brazilian cities, there is no more urgent issue than urban mobility. Precisely for this reason, this is one of the areas where more and more solutions have emerged from the connections peer-to-peer combined with geolocation technology.

  • Waze: If you have a car, this app has probably saved you from traffic a few times. What not every driver realizes is that, just by using the application, they are already helping to make it work better and better since the GPS of each connected cell phone feeds the Waze with road speed data. In addition to this “passive” participation, the wazers can feed the map with data about radar, police, accidents, etc.
  • Moovit: Using the same principle as Waze, Moovit emerged to help public transport users. Using the data transmitted by all cell phones connected to the application, it is possible to identify the best bus, train and subway routes in the main cities of the world.
  • Uber: Linked to the fact that, in large cities, most cars circulate with less than two occupants (in São Paulo the average is 1.4/vehicle), the Uber app connects passengers and drivers, in real time, to share rides. In Brazil, the app was banned recently (read our opinion piece), but zaznu and the website Tripda do something similar, the second being more focused on inter-municipal displacements.
  • Getaround: Have you calculated how long your car is parked in the garage at home or in a parking lot? What if, during that time, other people could use it and still get some money for it? Getaround thought about this and connects people who make a kind of “rental” of their vehicle for short periods.
  • spinlister: No bike deserves to be left dusting in the garage. Spinlister is the version of Getaround for bikes and equipment like boards, skiis and snowboards.
  • nimber: DHL? E-fedex? Why spend on logistics when there are so many people traveling to all parts of the world every day. One of them can take that order of yours. Nimber helps you find that person.
