As part of the second in a series of three missions that simulate a space for humans to live in Mars, NASA is looking for four new candidates. To be approved, you must meet a series of requirements and be available to participate in the simulation of living on Mars in 2025. Check out the information.
The purpose of the simulation

A NASA wants to capture information about what living on Mars would be like through simulation with twelve humans. They will be divided into three groups of four people to spend around a year in a special location developed just for the tests.
The first stage began in July 2023, the second begins in 2025 and the third stage should take place in 2027. After that, the data will be used for possible exploration missions on the red planet.
Performed activities

Those approved will be responsible for growing plants, carrying out necessary maintenance at home, communicating with astronauts on the international space station and taking walks simulating life on Mars. Monitoring scientific experiments is also one of the tasks to be carried out by those chosen.
It will be necessary to complete a series of exercises proposed by NASA and send reports to scientists about the experience of living in a place that simulates the atmosphere of Mars.
Start and end date

The second stage is expected to begin during the “first half of 2025”, without a specific date revealed until the closing of this article. Candidates are expected to live there for one year. The first chosen for the mission PLATE were:
- Research scientist Kelly Haston;
- Structural engineer and public works administrator Ross Brockwell;
- Microbiologist Anca Selariu;
- Board-certified emergency medicine physician Nathan Jones.

O Mars Dune Alpha is a 3D printed habitat of 157m² built at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. Check out details of the place, which has four separate bedrooms, a TV meeting room, laboratory and kitchen:
Requirements

More than being available to participate in the mission PLATE (acronym for Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog or Health Exploration and Crew Performance Simulation), interested parties must meet a series of requirements before registering to live in the house. Are they:
- Be a citizen or resident of the United States;
- Do not smoke;
- Be between 30 and 55 years old;
- Speak fluent English to communicate with scientists and mission colleagues;
- Have a postgraduate degree in a field of engineering solutions, mathematics, biology, Physics ou computer Science, by an accredited institution, with at least two years of professional experience or a minimum of one thousand hours flying an aircraft.
Additionally, people with a “strong desire for unique and rewarding adventures” will be prioritized for registration. If they have more than four years of experience, candidates who have completed military officer training will also be considered.
The American space agency emphasizes that people with food allergies, dietary restrictions and gastrointestinal disorders do not qualify for the vacancy.
How to Apply

Those interested in spending about a year simulating the planet Mars can access the CHAPEA mission official website and fill out the form for free. A NASA mentions that this is a paid job, but the salary amount was not disclosed — this must be informed to candidates who advance in the selection process.
Entries can be made until April 02, 2024 and, if you are thinking about signing up, remember to check all the requirements before making any investment. But tell us Comment: you would live confined for a year in the place that simulates the planet Mars?
