On July 20, 1969, man set foot on the moon. throughout the mission Apollo, NASA recorded numerous images. Last Sunday, the Project Apollo Archive updated the catalog with high resolution photos.
More than 8 thousand photographs, taken between 1969 and 1972, have been updated and are available on Flickr. All of them can be viewed at 1800 dpi (dots per inch).
The process of digitizing these images took a long time. According to Kipp Teague, who runs the Project Apollo Archive, the work started in 2004 and hundreds of films from Hasselblad cameras were reprocessed, adjusting colors and brightness levels.
Not all images are available; photos of missions 7, 8, 9, 10 and 13 are missing. Some of them will be added soon and others will take a while, according to Teague.
Apparently, a few more years of work ahead. At least, nowadays we can see the probe New Horizons arrive at Pluto and still access the images and data at virtually the same time as the scientists.
You can access the entire collection of Apollo mission photos here.
