With the new Twitter Blue, anyone could have access to the badge that was previously only given to those who passed an internal verification.

With a new owner since October 27, 2022, the blue bird's social network is undergoing important internal changes. Now, it's time for the new TwitterBlue be released with changes in price and benefits that it currently delivers.

Elon Musk, now the sole director of the social network, announced that anyone who wants to be a verified account owner will be able to pay for it. If currently it is necessary to invest US$ 4,99 a month to have access to some benefits, the billionaire is bringing news that both excite us and raise certain concerns. Get the news right now.

What will the new Twitter Blue have?

The badge for verified accounts is a way of allowing the followers of a large account not to be deceived by people impersonating the owner of the official profile.

A very common action is for users to use the same profile picture, account name and similar username to post false information and catch the most unsuspecting. The verified seal avoids just that, as it is only released to the engineers of the Twitter, that is, it cannot be copied by all users.

However, with the justification that “the current system of lords and peasants of the Twitter for those who have or not the stamp of verified accounts is bullshit”, Elon Musk announced on his profile with more than 113 million followers that all subscribers to the “new TwitterBlue” will be able to buy the badge from verified accounts.

For this, the value will increase from the current US$ 4,99 to US$ 8,00 (R$ 41,00 in direct conversion). He also mentioned that the value of the subscription will be adjusted from country to country, according to the purchasing power of users. Currently, who is a subscriber to the TwitterBlue it achieves:

  • Access to ad-free news articles (when accessed via Twitter);
  • Saved item folders;
  • Custom icons for the application;
  • Themes;
  • Personalized navigation;
  • Featured articles;
  • Possibility to undo tweets (don't confuse this with editing tweets);
  • Editing of tweets;
  • Video uploads of up to 10 minutes from the computer.

The official page of the “old” TwitterBlue It hasn't been updated yet, but that should happen soon, now that Musk is actively taking action to make the social network the way he wants. He confirmed that the new subscription will have:

  • Ability to post long videos and audios;
  • Less advertising;
  • Free access to news and tweets for editors who want to work with the company.

A big open question is whether all users who pay could have access to the badge of verified accounts. In reply to writer Stephen King, Elon replied that “this is the only way to avoid bots and trolls.” He also mentioned that this is a way to monetize to pay the bills of the social network.

Advertisements in news articles are back on display

According to an email sent to sites that are part of the program TwitterBlue, one of the main features of the subscription club is being neglected.

Announced for "the coming weeks", all people currently paying the $4,99 fee will again see ads on articles accessed by Twitter. Previously, a banner was displayed at the top of the screen that said “Twitter Blue Publisher”, which also ensured that subscribers would not see ads while browsing the app. The justification for this change is that the bluebird social network “will concentrate resources to add value to members”. See an excerpt from the statement:

In the course of this work, we have made the decision to discontinue Ad-Free Articles, effective for closing today, October 31, 2022. This difficult decision will allow us to focus our resources on adding additional value to our members. Expect to hear more from us soon.

still quoting the new TwitterBlue, Musk did not rule out the possibility of subscribers still seeing news without paywall, so it is expected that a new partnership will be made with websites and newspapers around the world.

It is not known how this will be done in practice, however, Elon promised that more news will be released soon. Until the closing of this article, Twitter Blue was available on USA, Canada, Australia e New Zealand.
