The Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services (MGI) updated the list of states that can already offer the new identity card. Now, almost half of all federative units are issuing the document in a new model, which is now called National Identity Card (CIN). Which states are already issuing the new identity card?
All regions of the country are already issuing the new identity card, but the Northeast and South regions are the ones with the most federative units with this availability. The pace of issuance is at high numbers: the federal government's management portfolio reported that 460 new licenses had already been issued by April and that 330 CINs were downloaded by the platform gov.br. Between July and December 2022, 105 wallets had already been provided, with only six states having the service during that initial period.
Does the new identity have an expiration date?
Yes, the new documentation has a validity scheme, which follows a scale according to age, but it does not have a defined period for those over 60 years old. In other cases, there is a period of 5 years for renewal for children aged 0 to 12 years and 10 years for people aged 12 to 60 years.
Older identity cards have another, longer validity period. They are valid until February 29, 2032. As such, it is expected that there will be a gradual transition to adoption of the CIN Throughout the national territory.
Identity changes: see what the new CIN offers
A variation in relation to the identity card we already know, which has the General Register (RG) defined by the States, is that the CIN will now only have the number of the Natural Persons Registration (CPF), with national validity. In other words, national identity will no longer rely on the RG, starting to have only a single code for each registered citizen. Furthermore, the main novelty, in terms of innovation, is that the national document now has a digital version. However, it can only be issued as long as the person has already sought to obtain the physical version of the ID.
The new identification includes a QR code which can give more authenticity to the document. With the code, any smartphone can scan the registry and verify that the CIN it was stolen or if it was the target of any criminal action. Added to this verification technology, the document has the code Machine Readable Zone (JUNE; machine-readable zone, in free translation), which is recognized internationally.
In this way, the new version of the wallet will be accepted as a travel document. still, the CIN It has different types of issue, with two types of physical version, paper and polycarbonate (plastic), or digital, which can be presented throughout the country. Regarding national acceptance, the main change is that only one card will be accepted, and it will no longer be possible to have a RG in each state, since the CPF goes on to replace it.
How to issue the new national identification card online?
To facilitate the reach and distribution of the new document, the government made it available through the application gov.br. Step 1: Log in to the app gov.br. As soon as you download the app, you will find a blue horizontal bar with the phrase “Entar com gov.br”. After clicking it, the application will take you to a credentials screen, as shown below:
Step 2: After login, a screen with a list of service options will appear. Click on the button that reads “Document Portfolio”, as shown in the image:
Step 3: In this section, the documents already placed in the application are listed. To add your CIN, you must click on the “+” button in the lower right corner of the screen.
Step 4: The app will show other options, related to identification. Now, you need to click on “Identity Card”:
