New Digital Identity arrives this year. Understand

A Identidade Digital , a document that unifies citizens' information and will be available for tablets e smartphones, now has a date to start operating throughout Brazil. The new document will gather data from the digital voter registration and the digital driver's license (CNH), facilitating the identification of people in a much safer way and with greater privacy, starting in the second half of the year.

The Digital Identity

All Brazilians will be able to issue the Digital Identity, and not just the approximately 90 million voters already registered in the Electoral Justice (JE) database.

This is because the National Civil Identification Program (ICN), responsible for issuing the document, will also collect the biometric information of non-individualized citizens - that is, those who do not yet have their fingerprints registered with the JE -, allowing them to have the new identity.

This is because the National Civil Identification Program (ICN), responsible for issuing the document, will also collect the biometric information of non-individualized citizens - that is, those who do not yet have their fingerprints registered with the JE -, allowing them to have the new identity.

At first, the Identity ou Digital ID, known in law as National Identification Document (DNI), will be issued only to tablets e smartphones.

However, your number will soon be incorporated into state-issued identity documents. It will have an identification number – internal and individual for each citizen – which will have nine digits, and will also display the numbering of other documents, such as the CPF.

Ahead of program management ICN, They are Superior Electoral Court (TSE), which is responsible for managing the database with citizens' biographical and biometric information, as well as issuing the Digital Identity and, in some situations, certify other bodies for the issuance of the document.

Beyond the  expertise, TSE It has an infrastructure capable of collecting the biometrics of all Brazilians, and will be responsible for storing and possibly sharing this information with other bodies.

Digital Identity Security

Among the main features of Identidade Digital is security, because the ID will ensure that no one tries to impersonate another person at the time of identification in any public or private institution. This will only be possible because the document will use biometric data that is unique to each individual.

The new identity will comply with strict standards, procedures and protection elements, with the aim of guaranteeing the integrity and authenticity of its content.

The document will be generated and can be authenticated through a security key verification process on a protected server. The data that will appear on mobile devices to citizens will be encrypted, which also increases the security of information. These data in “codes” can only be correctly read by those who have a kind of “key” to the secret.

The application will also provide a QR Code, which will be dynamically created with each new access, keeping the validation data linked to the date and time of its generation.

Furthermore, the ID will show in the upper right corner, as a watermark, a verification code containing 20 characters, preceded by the date and time it was generated.

How does it work in other countries?

In Spain, the digital document is already used to integrate the digital certificate into a single document, the ID, which gathers all personal data and includes biometric information.
