A Samsung, the last TV maker with the technology of plasma, announced today that it will end production of these models at the end of the year. It will be the one of this technology in televisions.
Beloved by home theater enthusiasts for their quality, plasma TVs did not fall in consumer taste, who opted for LCD technology, technology that allows the production of panels in much higher resolutions.
Plasma screens are more expensive to produce than LCD screens and are still far more difficult to manufacture at high resolutions like 4K, which is set to become the new standard in a few years.
Samsung joins Vizio, Sony and Panasonic in the list of companies that have abandoned the technology, at least for now.
The good news is that cheaper LCD screens are gaining in quality every year, narrowing the gap to plasma TVs in the past.
