A new technology is about to arrive on your smartphone. 5G brings much more than an increase in internet speed, check out everything about the new technology now.

There is a prediction that, in 2020, the 5G already a reality for most. However, are you aware of the impact it can have on the mobile internet? Also, when will he arrive? Did you also know that it will be much more than an upgrade to mobile networks? Check out these and other answers now!

The new network will help drive a huge increase in the so-called “Internet of Things”. That's because it will provide the infrastructure needed to transport massive amounts of data. Thus enabling a smarter and more connected world.

But how fast can he be?

It can be said that operators will offer a significant upgrade of possible 1 Gb per second compared to the networks we currently use. THE GSMA has been proposing a minimum download speed of 1 Gbps. For those who don't know, this is a trade organization, originally European, that represents the interests of mobile network operators around the world.

In addition to this surprising increase, the average speed of 5G networks is estimated to reach 10Gbps. But this is a shallow estimate! Others think that these transfer rates can reach up to 800 Gbps.

And don't worry, because while 5G could represent a big step up from current networks, the new technology won't immediately replace its predecessor. 5G must connect to existing networks to ensure users never lose their connection. Thus, the old 4G and even 3G networks will be acting as a kind of backup for areas not covered by the new technology.

Aside from speed, how useful will 5G be?

For starters, we will have much more reliable mobile connections. That's because, a quality internet with practically global reach also needs a lot of security. 5G is set to be the most secure mobile internet ever launched.

Thus, situations such as banking transactions and even in-app purchases will be safer, as encryption will be one of the hallmarks of the new technology. In addition, the connectivity between different elements of the city will be another differential. For example, if a light pole goes out, 5G will let the government know right away that there is a problem, because the pole is connected to an online system.

Cars will also be able to be connected so that simple things like checking emails, and even looking inside your fridge (also connected) can be done directly from your car window!

Finally, we will also have the increase in the number of connected devices. We already have a wide range of products launched in the technology market, such as the Google Home. The arrival of 5G will allow even more devices to be connected. Thus, we will be able to connect more devices that we use at home, allowing each of us to have a smart home much easier.

and that onethe 5G network need?

The GSMA outlined eight criteria for the new network. As such, such a connection will need to meet most of the items below to qualify as 5G. These are:

  1. 1-10 Gbps connections for endpoints in the field (ie, no theoretical maximum);
  2. Round-trip delay 1 millisecond end-to-end (latency);
  3. 1000 times bandwidth per unit area;
  4. De 10 to 1000 of connected devices;
  5. (Perception of) 99,999 percent availability;
  6. (Perception of) 100 percent coverage;
  7. 90% reduction in grid energy usage;
  8. Up to 10 years of battery life for low power devices, for machines for example.
