O OneDrive has been an interesting cloud storage option for a long time. the service of ecosystem offered an interesting free plan that, with the help of some offers, even gave more than 100 GB of free space to some users, in other situations doubled the storage space, all this to get a good spot in the sun in the dispute between cloud services.

Users of the paid service, Office 365 were entitled to 1 TB on OneDrive, in addition to other benefits, and users of the free plan had an initial 15 GB, and last year the company had already manifested itself with the intention of ending the party of some. According to the press release, many users were actually using the unlimited plan on an unlimited basis, and this worried Microsoft.

“A small number of users have backed up multiple PCs and stored entire movie collections and DVRs. In some cases, this exceeded 75 TB per user, which is about 14 times the average.”. This made the company announce the reduction of free space, and still end up with unlimited space.

I myself was one of those who lost the “unlimited” space, what a Microsoft!

Is it unlimited or not microsoft?
Is it unlimited or is it not Microsoft?

After some threats, we finally have a date when the cut will actually take place. The plan announced in November will come to fruition in July 2016, according to an email sent to users of the service's free plan.

As the email informs, on July 27th the amount of storage will be changed from 15 GB to 5 GB and the 15 GB bonus for camera images will also cease to exist. It was obtained by uploading photos to the service.

In case you're below the new limit, there's nothing to fear, but if you've got more than 5GB of data in the OneDrive cloud, then it's good to start worrying.

Some suggestions I give to save your data are to split it between similar services such as Google Drive, Dropbox and iCloud, or do backup on DVDs and USB sticks. You can cry too, but it won't solve anything.
