The new model promises to be closer to human thinking. In addition, we talk about the success of Bluesky and the new Meta Connect

O Showmetech TRIO is a compilation of the most interesting news of the week. Today, we are going to talk about the new artificial intelligence of OpenAI, the resounding success of Bluesky, amid the blockade of the X in Brazil, and we will also comment on the Goal Connect, an event that will take place on September 25th. Check out all the information about this week's TRIO right now!

New AI from OpenAI

On September 12, the OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has unveiled its latest language model, called o1. The model is designed to tackle challenges in mathematics, physics and chemistry, adopting an approach that is closer to human thinking, rather than providing quick answers.

The difference with o1 is its resolution method, which allows for more in-depth analysis and the application of different strategies to identify and correct errors. In contrast to GPT-4o, also from OpenAI, which prioritizes speed, o1 requires more time to generate responses.

In tests with the qualifying test of the International Mathematical Olympiad, the model achieved an assertiveness of 83%, significantly surpassing the 13% obtained by GPT-4o. OpenAI highlights that o1's performance is comparable to that of doctoral students in areas such as physics, chemistry and biology, despite still facing some problems in complex explanations.

o1 has some limitations. On average, the model takes 30 seconds to solve a problem, which is longer than GPT-4o. In addition, o1 does not have the ability to interpret images and can only process textual commands at this time. The new feature is available exclusively to subscribers of the Plus and Team plans, who have access to two variants: o1-preview, for solving mathematical problems, and o1-mini, focused on code generation.

Currently, users on the Plus and Team plans can send up to 30 weekly messages to o1-preview and 50 to o1-mini. Subscribers on the Enterprise and Edu plans will have access to the technology in the third week of September. OpenAI intends to make o1-mini freely accessible to all ChatGPT users, but has not yet set a date for this.

Bluesky Growth

In recent months, the Bluesky, a social network founded by Jack Dorsey, former co-founder of Twitter (current X), has experienced remarkable growth. The platform has seen an increase of eight million users since the end of last year, which represents a growth of 400% compared to the previous period.

Between August 28 and 31, 2024, the Bluesky added a million new users, an increase attributed to the blocking of X in Brazil, ordered by the Minister of the Supreme Federal Court, Alexandre de Moraes. Moraes ordered the suspension of the X due to non-compliance with court orders and the lack of a legal representative for the platform in the country. With this new membership, the Bluesky reached the 10 million user mark.

O X, now with 250 million users, and the Threads, with approximately 170 million, continues to lead in terms of user base. Despite its recent success, the social network is still far from the numbers of its competitors.

There is still no information about the daily activity of new users of Bluesky; it is unknown whether they are actively engaged on the platform or whether they simply created accounts to secure their usernames.

What to expect from Meta Connect

Finally, the Goal Connect is coming! The annual event of Meta will take place on September 25th and 26th and promises to bring a series of innovations in augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and artificial intelligence (AI).

Among the main expectations is the possible launch of the Orion device, an AR and VR headset. Unlike traditional models that completely immerse the user in a digital environment, Orion would be designed to overlay holographic information on the real-world view, similar to Microsoft. Mark Zuckerberg has already shared a preview of the device on Threads, but official confirmation will only occur at the event.

Another highly anticipated highlight is the Quest 3S, an entry-level version of the popular virtual reality headset from Meta. The new version is expected to bridge the performance gap between the Quest 2 and Quest 3, making it easier to develop more scalable applications. The Quest 3S could be priced between $300 and $400, more affordable than the original Quest 3, which cost $499. Rumors also indicate the possibility of variants without physical controllers, which could further reduce the cost.

A Meta is also expected to announce AI improvements for its existing devices, such as the Ray-Ban Meta. The implementation of the Llama 3.1 large language model (LLM), which stands out as an open-source alternative to Google and OpenAI's LLMs, promises to advance translation, mathematics and general knowledge answers. These updates are expected to bring new functionality to the Ray-Ban Meta's personal assistant, which is currently limited in its capabilities.
