the long awaited series Obi-Wan Kenobi arrives in the Disney+ catalog on May 27 and promises a rematch between the Jedi master who gives the series title and his former padawan, Anakin, now transformed into Darth Vader. Although it is directly linked to the Skywalker saga, the miniseries will show new scenarios and characters to the Star Wars universe.
Obviously, the plot of Obi-Wan Kenobi involves much more than the clash between Master and former apprentice, so check out some important information to prepare for the arrival of the new Star Wars series:

What the series is about?
The series will take place 10 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. With the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who becomes Darth Vader, the show's protagonist is tasked with protecting one of Anakin's children with Princess Padmé Amidala: Luke Skywalker.
For the past 10 years, the Empire has been busy eliminating the surviving Jedi from the order 66 – military coup that marked the end of the Clone Wars by a joint slaughter attack on the Jedi – killing them or converting them to the Dark Side. Those responsible for this work are the Inquisitors, Force-sensitive warriors used by the Empire to hunt down Jedi.
The life of the Jedi since then is on the run or in exile. Obi-Wan did the latter, but when he becomes wanted by the Inquisitors, Luke Skywalker's protector decides to flee the planet Tatooine so that Darth Vader's son stays off the Empire's trail.
What do I need to watch?
prequel trilogy

Chronologically, the series takes place between the prequel trilogy (1999 – 2005) and the classic (1977 – 1983). Ewan McGregor returns to the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi, the same one he had in the prequel films. And these are the fundamental works to watch for you to get to know the character. The series will do its best to reinstate the Jedi Master, but it will also make a lot of references to how he got here.
The other reason to watch the prequel trilogy is to see how young Anakin will be mirrored in the Luke — as a child — we saw in the trailer. As you can see below, we already have a very “like father, like son” situation, with young Skywalker apparently pretending to pilot a spaceship atop a building on Tatooine.

Star Wars: Rebels
As previously mentioned, the Inquisitors led by Darth Vader will have a strong presence in the series - something we already see in the trailers - and they were introduced in Star Wars: Rebels; there we meet the Grand Inquisitor as he takes commands from Darth Vader. We won't spoil his story as it takes place after Obi-Wan Kenobi's story, but it's safe to say he's a very powerful force.

Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

Although not fundamental, it is in A new hope that we see Obi-Wan — played by Alec Guinness — complete his mission to protect Luke Skywalker from the Empire, which would be tantamount to the conclusion of the narrative arc that is yet to be featured in the new series.
To be clear, this is where the character first appears on screen in theaters (1977), although it is the fourth film in the main chronology. In the other two films of the classic trilogy, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, Obi-Wan appears as a "phantom of the Force" in the films, being a moral compass for the development of Luke Skywalker.

What to expect again?
Legends
Another interesting factor in giving Obi-Wan a solo work is that he has always been a mysterious character. Much of what has been established of the character's life outside of the films, such as relationships, parents, and home planet, has surfaced in the imprint's books and comics. Legends — previously known as the Expanded Universe. Therefore, the production of the series can canonize some of this information or simply create.

Change in character
Although the series is selling Kenobi and Vader's rematch, most likely this confrontation will only take place at the end of the season. During the course of the series, we will follow Obi-Wan's escape from the Inquisitors. Therefore, one of the main characteristics of the character, his diplomacy, will be useless. Perhaps during this situation we will see a more "rogue" side of the character, or closer to Alec Guinness's version of Obi-Wan.

Second season
Although the Headmistress of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Deborah Chow, commented that from the beginning of development, the approach was limited series, with beginning, middle and end, Lucasfilm president, Kathleen Kennedy, did not rule out the possibility of a second season.
We talked about the possibility (of season two), mainly because everyone came together and had an amazing time on set. Ewan [McGregor] had a great time, as did Hayden [Christensen].
So certainly, from that point of view, no one would want it to end. At the same time, there is the question: 'Why would we do this again?' If we decide to do more with Obi-Wan, we'd have to have a good enough reason.”
declared the president of Lucas Film.
The truth is, if the series finds favor with the public, it will come as no surprise to extend this Jedi Master's journey for another season. For now, all we know is that Obi-Wan Kenobi arrives on Disney+ on May 27.
