Pokémon Sword and Shield: a lot of news happened in Direct; check out

O Nintendo Direct this Wednesday (05/06), which focused on the next games Pokémon Sword and Shield, revealed the legendary Pokémon that will grace the game's covers. In addition, the presentation showed several news about the new games and the release date of the titles for the end of this year. Zacian and Zamazenta

Zacian will be the legendary Pokémon on display in Sword with Zamazenta appearing in Shield. Both carry the element of their respective game, having swords and shields. Zacian carries a sword in his mouth and the entire front of Zamazenta's body has shield-like armor. However, so far, there is no information about their types.

Dog-like Pokémon share very close color schemes; while their motives seem opposite, the two will likely have an origin story that stems from a similar place, like other legendaries that grace the covers of previous games. In addition, in the trailer shown, the impression is that the Legendaries need to unite to face another more powerful opponent: will it be another Pokémon or the villain team of the new games?

The new Pokemon of Galar

In addition to the legendary, new Pokémon are coming to the franchise with Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, the eighth generation of the game series from Game Freak and The Pokémon Company, now for Nintendo Switch. Although we already knew about the trio of newcomers to the games – Grookey, Sobble e Scorbunny – today's presentation gave fans a glimpse of the new little monsters we'll find in the Galar region. The following is a Pokédex description of each of the Pokémon featured.

• Gossifleur: This Pokémon prefers land with clean water and air. Its pollen has a healing effect and is commonly used as a folk medicine remedy and made into tea for children in the Galar region when they are sick. Gossifleur travels long distances being carried by the wind. Control the direction of your travels by twisting your body and petals.

• Eldegoss: When Gossifleur evolves into Eldegoss, its head is covered in fine cotton down. This cotton fluff serves as a cushion that helps protect Eldegoss' head from damage. The tiny seeds attached to cotton fluff are considered highly nutritious and beneficial to both people and Pokémon. Eldegoss spreads these seeds throughout the region, making the soil of the Galar region rich in nutrients.

• Wooloo: The white fur that covers Wooloo's body grows throughout its life and will fully grow back in three months, even if it has been completely clipped. The skin is used for clothing, rugs and other products and is very popular as a special product from the Galar region. Wooloo lives like a herd and mimics the actions of its trainer or herd leader. They don't like conflict, and if they need to escape enemies, they'll just walk away.

• Corviknight: Corviknight is said to be the strongest Pokémon that lives in the skies of the Galar region. It can often be seen fearlessly soaring through the air. Many say that any Pokémon foolish enough to defy Corviknight is sent running with just one piercing stare and cry from this terrifying Pokémon. As Corviknight has excellent flying skills and high intelligence, many of them work for the company called Galar Taxi and help transport people from city to city.

• Drednaw: The Bite Pokémon Drednaw's pointed fangs are strong and sharp enough to bite through rock and iron. Although it has a heavy shell, its well-developed muscles allow it to move quickly. Drednaw is known to be extremely aggressive, so it takes a skilled trainer to tame and handle this Pokémon. It looks like some Handlers will release Drednaw back into the wild when they find they can't handle it.

New mechanics and release date

As we already knew, Pokémon Sword and Shield will be set in the new UK-inspired Galar region and will introduce eighth-generation Pokémon to the series. In addition to wider spaces and a free-moving camera, the new games will also have an exclusive system called Dynamax, which will make the Pokémon huge. At raid battles, present in Pokémon Go, will also occur in Sword and Shield.

Dynamax will work both in Gyms and in the open world (which will have Pokémon walking outdoors in the same style seen in Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee). The difference is that in the open world the player will be able to battle a giant Pokémon with other users or friends in multiplayer battles that will require a lot of strategy and team coordination.

Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be released worldwide in November 15th, 2019. Starting today, Pokémon fans can pre-order a double pack of the game, which includes Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. Pack art includes the new Legendary Pokémon introduced today, Zacian and Zamazenta.
