The first electronic paper cell phone will be presented on the 10th, at the “International Conference on Human and Computer Interaction”, in Canada. baptized as PaperPhone, the device works like a flexible smartphone.
“The new cell phone looks like a small sheet of paper,” said Roel Vertegaal of Queen's University, who led a team also made up of researchers from the University of Arizona and E-ink. “You interact with the device by folding it or even writing on it with a pen.”
The object basically does the same as a smartphone. The advantage is the 3,7-inch screen, which is made of a thin film, identical to that of Amazon's Kindle e-reader, produced by E-ink. The flexibility of the display makes the cell phone adapt, for example, to the shape of the pocket. Look:
The invention is part of a new generation of lightweight, thin and flexible computers. In addition to being extremely portable, they do not consume energy when not handled. “This is the future. We expect the technology to reach the population in five years,” Vertegaal said.
