A Qualcomm announced several new features for the MWC 2024 (Mobile World Congress), which this year takes place between the 26th and 29th of February, in Barcelona. The company, known for manufacturing processors for the most diverse devices, announced the launch of a platform that will help artificial intelligence developers to work in an optimized way and in less time, in addition to making it possible to carry out practical tests right at the end of development. Check out all the news.

The first novelty of Qualcomm for MWC 2024 is focused on professionals creating applications that draw on the source of artificial intelligence for devices that have the company's chips. For this first moment, it was highlighted that there will be more than 75 language models available for immediate use. The development process will be like this:

  1. The developer selects the language model;
  2. Next, it's time to choose the target platform (device) for which the AI will work
  3. Development takes place immediately afterwards and, at the end, it will be possible to download a demo for practical tests to be carried out.

Among the benefits, the Qualcomm remember that it will be possible to carry out development in less time and, as soon as practical tests are carried out, professionals will also know the real amount of RAM needed for the features to run smoothly.

Developers can seamlessly integrate these models into their apps, reducing time to market and leveraging the benefits of on-device AI implementations such as immediacy, reliability, privacy, personalization, and cost savings.

Qualcomm about its AI development platform

A Qualcomm AI Hub will be available on GitHub e hugging face, platforms commonly used by developers. A release date has not yet been announced, but it should be available for use during the first half of 2024.

Snapdragon X80 5G Modem-RF System

Expected to be installed in processors for various devices, this new modem features the connectivity system Qualcomm Fast Connect 7900. It was announced as the first to bring Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth and ultrawide connectivity on a single chip. The company will stop using small components on the same chip and will only use the connectivity system developed for devices launched from 2024 onwards.

According to the company, “Snapdragon X80 5G is the most advanced 5G modem in the world” due to fully integrated NB-NTN satellite communication support and communications support for connectivity to non-terrestrial networks.

A dedicated tensor accelerator powers AI optimization that improves throughput, quality of service (QoS), coverage, latency, spectrum efficiency, power efficiency, and mmWave beam management.

Qualcomm about the new X80 5G modem

The new connectivity system uses artificial intelligence resources to deliver the best user experience in everything it offers. A Qualcomm, which is betting on the concept “AI Everywhere” or “AI everywhere”, took the opportunity to mention that investments in AI in connectivity services will be seen even more. O FastConnect 7900 It's just the first step for this to start working.

The future of generative AI is hybrid, with on-device intelligence working in conjunction with the cloud to provide greater personalization, privacy, reliability and efficiency. Connectivity is critical to helping generative AI scale and extend across cloud, edge and devices, and AI solutions are enabling us to deliver next-generation connectivity that can support this era of generative AI. As the company drives intelligent computing everywhere, we are enabling the ecosystem to develop and commercialize generative AI use cases, experiences and leading products across device categories including smartphones, high-end PCs, XR devices, vehicles, robotics and much more.

Images will be recreated directly on smartphones (Photo: Disclosure)

Acronym for Low Rank Adaptation, this is the technology that uses an existing image and changes its style completely. During the examples shown, a photo of a kitten had its style completely changed in just a few seconds. A Qualcomm mentions that it will be possible to create new photos based on artistic or personal preferences.

Such processing power occurs with more than a billion parameters “borrowed” from the stable diffusion, in addition to the work developed by Qualcomm. The new artificial intelligence must run on smartphones Android, so we can only wait for the future for it to be launched by some company or to be available in the next Qualcomm processors.

The company took the opportunity to say that all processing and creation of new images takes place on the device itself, without the need for any photo or command to be sent to the cloud and waiting for a result to be delivered.

Language model should be the first to run on PCs to recognize music (Photo: Disclosure)

Apps like Shazam and personal assistants like Siri, Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa have the capacity to listen a song and quickly identify it, right? But that hasn't been available for computers — until now. In yet another advertisement for MWC 2024, Qualcomm announced language models that can listen to a song so that identification can happen immediately.

In addition to being able to send an audio file to the language model, the new feature can be activated to listen to the sound playing in the environment and, quickly, a response will be sent. The user will also be able to use the language model to recognize speech.

This feature is undergoing its first tests, but should reach models with a processor Snapdragon X Elite shortly. Let's wait for more information.

Native “ChatGPT” on Android

Concluding the news, the display of a generative AI model for creating texts and images was also made by Qualcomm. Running natively, within the Android smartphone or tablet, this new feature has more than seven billion parameters.

The biggest new feature, in addition to running directly on devices, is that it has the ability to understand the images sent. With no date of arrival on smartphones until the closing of this article, it will also be possible to interact in the same way we interact with personal assistants such as Google Assistant, Siri and Alexa.
