O Snapdragon Tech Summit is the event organized by Qualcomm to present what's new for the following year, and the 2018 edition is taking place on Maui, the second largest island in the world. hawaii, between December 4th and 6th, and Showmetech is present at the event to show you a preview of what's to come.
Among the novelties, the company showed yesterday (04) the Snapdragon X50NR, new modem from Qualcomm that allows cell phones to offer 5G. In this article, we tell you more details about the main announcement of the first day of the event.
Qualcomm brings 5G smartphone
The company invited to take the stage David Ige, governor of the state of Havai, who took the opportunity to comment on the interest in implementing connectivity 5G on the island.
“We are an island, a closed system. For that reason, I understand that Hawaii is a potentially interesting region to test the advantages of connectivity, such as the integration of autonomous cars and computerized highways.”
Qualcomm's Global President, Cristiano Amon, hosted the event and said that some US operators, such as Verizon and AT&T, are already preparing to offer the service.
During the presentation, Amon demonstrated a Moto Z3 already running with AT&T's 5G network. The device had a Moto Snap, a device dedicated to connecting with the new network, making the Motorola cell phone become a 5G smartphone. This accessory also has Qualcomm technology, and should hit the market in 2019.
The company knows that there are many challenges to deploying 5G, but it believes in the benefits of the new network. Qualcomm representatives say that the popularization of 5G does not only depend on it, but also on a good integration with the current networks of operators.
To get an idea of the speed of the 5G, with 1 minute of connection it is already possible download a 4K video to your cell phone, for example. The speed of this new network is also 10 times faster than the current 4G.

a pleasant surprise
One of the surprises during the first panel was the presence of Samsung, represented by justin deninson, SVP of Mobile Product Marketing and Strategy. He stated that the company already has a smartphone 5G in manufacturing, and the model will be available in 2019.
Recently leaked benchmarks indicate that this smartphone would be the Galaxy S10 +.

“With the help of Qualcomm, Samsung will launch one of the first 5G smartphones on the market as early as next year.”
In addition to Samsung, other manufacturers in the world, such as Xiami, Oppo, and vivo, are also participating in the race to make 2019 the year of 5G. It is expected that the first colors running 5G start to be launched on the market from the first half of 2019, and the expectation is that the new network will become popular quickly.
