Do you remember what was the first social network you were a part of? Today, many young people can answer this question by saying Facebook ou Twitter, which is a valid answer, but the fact is that these sites are far from being the first social networks that were hugely successful around the world. And some of the first social networks were so successful that we would never imagine that one day they would disappear.
However, many old social networks have fallen by the wayside or been left behind by their developers. But of course this does not make them less important than the ones we know today, after all they made history and were the basis for the social connections we know today, in addition to having been a big step towards a better understanding of how this world with social connections through from the internet works.
Orkut
When talking about old social networks or social networks that no longer exist, the first thing that comes to mind for many people is the Orkut, this is because about half of the users of the Orkut were Brazilians. This social network was created in 2004 and took the name of its creator, the Turkish engineer, Orkut Büyükkökten.
O Orkut was created as a private social network, where only those who received the invitation could participate, but over time this changed and the social network expanded and released registration for any user who wanted to be part of the community.

The platform was developed by Google and ended on the day 30 September 2014. The closing of the site moved the internet public that did not want the end of the social network, but the reality is that the Orkut had already lost almost all of its users to the Facebook. With a very low number of users and the lack of investment by the Google, the platform had to be discontinued. MSN
Having its beginning in 1999, MSN was one of the most popular social messaging networks in the world for a long time.
With MSN it was possible to carry out much more than just private chats between friends, with it it was also possible change emoticons (Winks), send and receive files, add status, make video calls and even catch the eye of the person on the other end with a screen-shattering option.

The video call on MSN it was certainly an innovative resource for the time, but with the purchase of Skype or Whatsapp in 2011, by Microsoft, all the company's attention was focused on its new acquisition, taking the MSN to be discontinued worldwide.
Google+
The Google+ was launched in 2011 in an attempt by Google to compete with the popular social network, Facebook. However, without offering anything new to the user, the Google+ did not win many users, being terminated in 2019 due to the low public interest in the platform and the high cost to keep it active. The platform was still a victim of data leaks, which helped it to be discontinued even earlier.

Short video social network? Does that remind you of anything? O wine was released in 2013 and even before being released it was bought by Twitter and went on to become the most downloaded app in the US in 2013. It helped put video media in the spotlight and showed how they could enrich and boost social media.

O wine had a short life and had its official closure in 2016, as it was not able to adapt to rivals that arrived with novelty in the market such as Snapchat, Instagram e Youtube that have been getting better and better over time.
MySpace
O MySpace was released in 2003 and became the most popular social network in the world for a long time. Even without having a national version, the platform managed to win over many Brazilians, which led to the creation of a Brazilian version in the year 2007.
On the website it was possible to post photos, youtube, create groups and share emoticons. In addition, there was the tab MySpaceMusic that allowed musicians to start their careers independently through the platform with sharing e download the songs. However, over the years and with the release of Facebook, which had tools similar to the MySpace, the platform was falling by the wayside.
Yahoo!Buzz
Have you heard of Yahoo!Buzz? This was one of the shortest-lived social networks. Created in 2008 to compete with services Google , the MSN, Yahoo!Buzz allowed the user create your own articles on personal or private websites, it was also possible share photos, exclusive links e sites. With an interface that has not fallen to the public's taste and better options on the market, the Yahoo!Buzz was discontinued in 2011.
