Highlander Remake With Henry Cavill Will Be Filmed In 2022

Fans of Henry Cavill can already celebrate, because the star who has been successful with his character Gerald de Rivia in The Witcher will live another iconic character, entitled to sword fights and immortal life. the remake of Highlander, a classic from the 80s, will be directed by the director of John Wick, Chad Stahelski and already has approval to start recording in the first half of 2022.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, it was revealed that Henry Cavill has already signed on to be in the film. Also in the same report it was revealed that this role earned about US$ 5 million as payment. according to Deadline it is not yet known which character will be played by him, if he will repeat the character Connor MacLeod or if it will be something completely new.

The 1986 Highlander plot

The 1986 film tells the story of the immortal Connor MacLeod, played by Christopher Lambert, who can only be killed by decapitation. Eventually he ends up meeting Juan Ramirez (Sean Connery), a warrior who teaches him how to wield a sword. After living somewhat peacefully for several centuries, MacLeod eventually settles in New York City, and is soon drawn back into the battlefield when his greatest enemy Kurgan (Clancy Brown) returns to kill him in an attempt to become the only immortal on Earth.

The film was a great success, grossing US$12,9 million, guaranteeing its sequels: Highlander, The Resurrection, in 1991; Highlander III: The Sorcerer, in 1994; and Highlander, The Final Battle, in 2000. In 2007, the fifth film was released, Highlander: The Origin, being the first non-theatrical release featuring Christopher Lambert. In all, the franchise bolstered four feature films, a made-for-TV movie, two television series, and an animated series. 

The original film told in its soundtrack with songs by Queen, having hits like “Who Want to Live Forever”, “Princes of the Universe” and “Don't Lose Your Head”.

Remake production

On the reboot, the production is counting on Kerry Williamson, who is writing the final draft of the script. Producers on the new Highlader include Neal H. Moritz and Josh Davis. Executive producers include Amanda Lewis, Patrick Wachsberger and Gregory Widen and Peter S. Davis, producer of Highlander original that helped develop the new film, but died in February, aged 79.
