In an interview for the press center of the Korean company in Brazil, Renato Citrini, Senior Product Manager Mobile experience da Samsung Brazil, spoke about his experience in the technology market, before and after taking the position at the company. Renato Citrini graduated in Electrical Engineering at the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo and has an interesting career within the technology market. He says that his first paid job was “in one of the largest state-owned companies at the time, linked to transport”.

Before reaching the position of senior product manager of Mobile experience da Samsung in Brazil, citrus worked at companies somewhat different from the smartphone maker Galaxy. He participated in the process of deploying broadband networks and the entire process of digitizing smartphones. What I find interesting about this history is the cultural diversity of the companies in which I worked. In addition to a Brazilian state-owned company, I worked for European and American companies, and now I'm working for an Asian company. About work at Samsung, Renato cites that working in a company that manufactures everything from processors to air conditioners is quite an experience, allowing day after day, different challenges to boost demands. He also says that the pandemic did not prevent the company from continuing to grow, even with a large part of the team working from home.

What always has is intensity and goals to be overcome, but the work is not monotonous, as we are always challenged. Innovation is almost a keyword here at Samsung and not only in the product, but in all processes and in the way we work.

For me, it is exciting to participate in such an environment, which brings challenges and innovation. An example of this is that at the height of the pandemic we all went home and the company continued to fly. Despite the regrets, it was interesting to see how we were able to accomplish the challenge of working remotely and, in the end, it was a success.

Job change and challenges

When he was hired by Samsung Brazil in 2014, Renato was considered to take care of the tablet sector and keep the name of the Korean company in this growing market day by day. But in the first month, it was transferred to the premium smartphone division, starting to take care of more complete models that offer a personalized experience for its users.

I believe it was remarkable because of the challenge of making great releases, always bringing innovation. It's a relentless quest to bring improvements at an accelerated pace, so that our technologies outperform and are always better than we've done before. We have to constantly improve ourselves, which dignifies a work environment that is both motivating and challenging at the same time.

A Samsung is a company that works by carrying out several launches within a period of one year and models from the Galaxy S, Z Fold and Z Flip line are good examples. Making these models bought by fans of the brand is the main work of Renato, as well as conquering more and more new customers is also a great challenge. But he mentions that the challenges help to move the routine in an encouraging way.

The most pleasurable part is having this contact with the top of technology and innovation, and being in a reference company in the smartphone and TV market. For me, it's a source of pride and motivation, and a very interesting environment to be in.

And the challenging part is almost the same thing. To be in this environment of innovation and leadership, we have to renew ourselves every week, every launch. Innovation in the Mobile Experience division

It is important to remember that despite having a renowned name in the technology industry, Samsung cannot fail to innovate among so many competitors. citrus points out that at this point, every new product must be kept confidential during all its stages of development. A single leak can wipe out any competitive advantage.

Challenges include barriers that are currently global, in addition to the fact that, even in Brazil, smartphones are increasingly similar. In this sense, innovation is very important and a differentiating factor, but one that disappears quickly. We are in an environment where competition is increasingly fierce, which is why confidentiality is important when we develop something new. The more confidential the work, the greater the competitive advantage. In general, it is this competitive scenario that is challenging.

We work in a strong company, which reinvents itself and brings news. The new foldable smartphones are an example of this: no other company has made devices in this category for a long time, while we are in our fourth generation. It is this ability to reinvent products and positioning that is only possible when we have the opportunity to work in a company as big and strong as Samsung.

How to grow in the technology market?

citrus comments that in addition to the passion to work, it is important to be up to date with the passage of time, regardless of the area in which the technology market operates. He also mentions that being in different markets can make a professional more complete, so every experience, regardless of the position held, can help young people to grow and reach their goals.

We spend most of our lives working, so we need to be aware of our principles and what challenges us as professionals. It's always better to wake up excited to tackle the day and make it happen. In addition, working with something demotivating is not good for anyone, as the whole environment does not cooperate.

The path is to work with something that motivates you and brings people together to be better. And if the twinkle in the eye ceases to exist, it's time to look for something different. If this doesn't bring a will within you, it will be difficult to do the job and the day to day will be bad. Leaving the box is also important and challenging, changing the air a little and going to a different world is also challenging. I've always been a product manager, antennas, batteries, software products, and now smartphones. These changes were really cool and enriching experiences for me.
