Disgaea 5 Complete is the next shot put to hit the Nintendo Switch. Available to everyone on the day May 23 via Nintendo eShop and in physical stores, the Disgaea series is back for Nintendo's video games.
While in Japan the game was already released in March and had little more than 20 thousand copies sold, the North American and European markets have already reserved 110 thousand copies him so far, suggesting a hyping biggest in history.
For a week, the showmetech tested the new game for Switch, and without spoilers, let's talk about everything you need to know before buying the game and if it's really worth it (spoiler: yes it is).
Strategy RPG not to fail
Disgaea 5 Complete is a compilation of the best of the series, bringing together Disgaea 5 Alliance of Vengeance for PlayStation 4. and all DLCs released so far.
The game tells the story of Killia, a rebel who wants to end the Overlord Dark Void's reign of destruction. Along the way, the main character finds allies who want to stop the destruction of the netherworlds by the villain. One of the great insights of the series, however, is that no figure is good, as they are all demons.
Even so, don't expect to find Strategy RPG a dark and macabre game. If there's one thing that Disgaea 5 Complete brings to the player is fun. The dialogues between Killia, his companion Seraphina and the butler-fighting penguins “Prinny” are extremely funny, adding humor to each passage of the game, in the most japanese-comic style.
One of Disgaea's strengths is the story, which for more impatient players can become a problem, since at each stage a part of the story is unfolded and at the end of each battle, more information appears.
With over 100 hours of gameplay and several worlds to win, don't be scared to spend more time than you expected with the game, because the maximum level you can reach with your characters is "only" 9999. Disgaea 5 came to end the question “what to do after finishing Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild”.
The best thing about Disgaea is the Nintendo Switch; play wherever you want
At first, the game scares complexity. For first-time players, there is likely to be a certain fear when starting the story. With a variety of attributes, actions, monster classes, and abilities, taking full advantage of Disgaea becomes much more challenging than I Am Setsuna.
My tip is: give it time. Because it is a strategy RPG, it's obvious that it caters to the most demanding players and longtime fans of the series, but nothing that you can't learn over time (and that's what you'll get most in the 100+ hours of gameplay).
The good thing about Disgaea is that the game teaches you how the game mechanics work. Ordinary well explained tutorial and simple at first, the player spends the first half hour of the adventure (optional) learning all about the battles.
Another strong point of the game, besides the story, are the graphics. even in style oldschool board game, are rich details of scenarios, characters and combo attacks. The game mixes a anime style with retro RPG. By not abusing the video game processing, it is easy and economical to play Disgaea and the main reason to choose the Nintendo Switch version of the PlayStation 4 is: you can take your Switch wherever you want and play Disgaea for over three hours without having to charge your console.
I can't actually say when I put it on. Disgaea 5 Complete on television for the last time, because the best part of it is enjoying the handheld mode of the Switch. With the game, the real challenge is your head, as there is no complicated mechanics of pressing buttons at the time of battle. It's all very intuitive.
Get ahead with DLCs
The advantage of the Switch version of Disgaea is that all DLC's Alliance of Vengeance are available right away. In addition to being able to unlock characters known by fans for your team from the beginning, you can receive a million coins right away and some alternative stages with classic characters from Disgaea.
There are 8 bonus scenarios, 4 characters loved by fans of the series and 3 classes of characters from the franchise. Disgaea allows the player to create their own characters, make them fighters, mages, healers, among other classes. It is also possible to create unique skills, make the most different combinations in battles and assemble strategies to fight against other monsters on the board.
Final thoughts and price
Disgaea 5 Complete It's a game to make no mistake. With an immersive story, good graphics, a cutting-edge soundtrack and the best SRPG style, Disgaea is a must have for any player who wants to spend hours and hours on a one-player game that is light to play, but doesn't underestimate the player's intelligence.
Available next week, Disgaea is savory $60 dollars, although it delivered what was promised. Just over 6GB is needed to install it from the eShop. Developed by Nippon Ichi Software and published by NIS America, the question that remains is: what is the company's next game that will be released for the Switch? And why can't we wait to have it in our hands?
