Introduction
We were invited by intelbras to test one of your new Digital Locks, the model FR201. Also known as electronic locks, they have been gaining supporters due to a very interesting combination: they are increasingly safer and increasingly cheaper.
But, will the model intelbras is it really safe? Does it offer features seen on international models? Check out the review below:
Traditional x Electronic Lock

First, let's talk about locks and security, as many people still wonder if this type of digital lock is even safer than traditional models.
If you want a quick answer: yes, without a doubt. This is because traditional locks have mechanisms that are easy to manipulate. Even without a key, a thief or rapist can watch a video on YouTube on how to open locks and unlock them in less than 5 minutes.
On the contrary, digital locks like the FR201 have several additional security features that prevent tampering. Among them are:
- Anti-fall alert: an audible warning (1 minute) is triggered on the lock itself when 5 consecutive attempts to open it are denied or when there is an attempt to violate;
- Password protected function: when enabled, it provides random numbers to be typed by the user after typing the password, making it difficult to discover the fingerprints left on the keypad of the lock;
- Extra fixing: part of the lock is also fixed to the wall and to the door frame, making it much more difficult to break it;
- Do Not Disturb Function: to add another level of security at night or at times when you want more discretion, just press the button "do not disturb", so that the lock disables the opening indefinitely (the reactivation is done by the same button).
Installation
Although the company is right to say that installing the lock is a relatively easy procedure, not everyone will be able to do it on their own.
The installer needs to mark points to drill holes in the door and frame, using a template that comes with the product. If done poorly, the process can damage the door. Therefore, we recommend that you hire a professional locksmith or installer.
The good news is that, if you are already a contractor for services such as Porto Seguro, they perform the installation for you at a discount.
Hours

Here, there is not much mystery. You can choose between unlock the lock with a password or using an RFID key fob (a kind of card that you can carry around) that comes as an accessory. As one of the coolest advantages of this type of lock is precisely leaving the keys at home, we recommend using the first option, right?
In general, you can register up to 4 passwords different (one for each resident of the house, for example) and 100 keychains.
But we found out that you can even use the your Android smartphone as “key” to unlock this lock. The process requires support for NFC connections on the phone and an app that simulates the functions of the RFID key.
After unlocking the lock and opening the door, simply touch it again, and the automatic locking starts in three seconds. That story of leaving the house and forgetting the door open is over.
Battery and Consumption
“What if I run out of battery?” Perhaps this is the question that most people ask when thinking about products like this. But, you can rest assured: the lock works with 4 stacks type AA, with autonomy of up to one year.
A week before it runs out of charge, the lock signals the need for a replacement, giving you time to replace it. And, if you forget, there are 2 options:
- If you are inside: just use the manual override;
- If you are outside: there is a connector for 9v batteries (you put the battery on it, to turn on the lock and unlock it with the password);
