Launched in Brazil in May, the Odyssey OLED G5 It attracted attention for its low price even with a QD-OLED screenwhich stands out for delivering better quality than LED or LCD panels. But is there a catch to this low price, or is there a hidden agenda? Samsung Did it deliver exactly what it promised? See our analysis:
Design
Completely black and finished in plastic, the base is easy to attach, but you will need a screwdriver to screw it onto the screen.
The assembly time, which will require a screwdriver, takes about ten minutes. But if you're thinking of mounting a screen on the wall, there are also four holes on the back for attaching it to a bracket. The base isn't large, which is helpful for those with smaller desks, keeping the monitor stable throughout use.
The first negative comment concerns the lack of screen adjustment up or down, although it is still possible to move the tilt forward and backward. Despite being in the gaming category, it's worth remembering that the monitor doesn't have RGB lighting, which isn't a major problem either.
Navigation within the system is done via five physical buttonsLocated just below the screen, the controls are consistent with other models in this category, allowing for easy use. See:
The design of this Samsung OLED monitor delivers the basics without needing major additions that would increase the product's cost. Therefore, its assembly is easy, and navigating the system using the buttons doesn't require advanced technological knowledge. Even though it's made of plastic, the black color is suitable for a variety of gaming or even work environments.
Fabric
Regarding the last Odyssey g5 Launched in 2025, the big news is the new QD-OLED screen with 2,5K/QHD resolution (2560×1440)The update delivers a gaming monitor that surprises with its low price compared to models in the same category. Besides being good for gaming, the monitor also functions as a screen for work and media consumption, even though its bezels are somewhat visible.
The model comes with two other interesting additions: the first is a anti-reflective layer (glare free)This adds value if your room receives a lot of natural light. It's a subtle reduction in reflections, but it makes a difference in games with darker scenes. The second is... certification Pantone Validatedwhich guarantees high color fidelity in various aspects, but this gets even better when more colorful games are viewed on the screen.
It's worth highlighting OLED technology — always cited as an excellent option for gamers. With OLED, blacks are deeper because only the necessary pixels are lit, something that doesn't happen with LCD panels, which rely on white backlighting.
Going into detail, the monitor has refresh rate up to 180Hz via connection DisplayPort or even 144Hz via HDMI 2.1, 0,03 ms response time and support for the following technologies AMD FreeSync e NVIDIA G-Sync, which synchronize the screen refresh rate with the video card to prevent tearing when playing more dynamic titles, such as Counter-Strike ou Fortnite.
In total, the screen comes with nine color modes, with the mode Fun & Leisure Delivering excellent color fidelity, but with various settings that highlight lighter or darker tones, which can be useful for different situations, this monitor offers versatility.
With the correct settings, the image experience is excellent. As soon as you receive the model at home, it's worth going through the modes to get the best visual experience.
I tested Fortnite On this screen, there are no negative points to highlight: each tone is in its proper place. With breathtaking scenes, you'll have fun with the... Odyssey OLED G5 It was easy. I really liked that even in such a colorful game full of effects, the monitor managed to deliver high quality.
Cyberpunk It also delivered a great visual experience and, even though it's a more dynamic game, it didn't disappoint, with no screen tearing, and it even has a feature that impressed me quite a bit, which I'll discuss further later.
Finally, it's worth remembering that you can also take advantage of the large screen to connect your consoles like PS5, Switch 2 or... Xbox Series XXbox Series S, proving to be a completely versatile display, whether you're a PC or console gamer.
Doors
O Odyssey OLED G5 It comes with a simpler set of rear air intakes. See:
- 1x HDMI 2.1
- 1x DisplayPort
- 1 x 3,5 mm P2 type input for headphones or speakers
- 1x USB-A input
- power connector
When more than one device is connected at the same time, the function Auto Source Switch+ It will switch to the port the device was plugged into, avoiding that manual switching. The same service can be seen on Samsung smart TVs and other brands.
In terms of connectivity, it's clear that the manufacturer only included the basics to reduce the final cost of the product. While it's easy to change cables, the convenience of having multiple ports to connect other devices simultaneously is lacking. An alternative for PC users is to use the connection... DisplayPort, a standard in the gaming segment.
However, if your devices only have outputs HDMI ou USB-CYou'll inevitably have to keep switching cables; exactly as happened to me, since I use a laptop and also wanted to connect the... PS5 or the Nintendo Switch.
Special Features
Black equalizer
O Black Equalizer It arrives as an option to improve darker scenes and allow you to see more detail. I tested the functionality in... Hollow Knightwhich has a darker setting, and the experience made a difference in seeing the details, even though the whiter lighting was still quite noticeable. Depending on the game, it's worth maintaining the level of Black Equalizer Between 6 and 8, but the difference is seen as soon as the intensity starts to increase.
Virtual Aim
Virtual sights are here to enhance shooting games and make all the difference for those who enjoy them. Counter Strike, Fortnite, Destiny 2, Overwatch And more. It comes as a sight with two types (one narrower and one wider), which can be positioned wherever you want, but the idea is to position it above the game's official crosshair.
I tested it in Fortnite The virtual crosshair is positioned just above the original in-game crosshair, but much more noticeable. It's also possible to change the color to blue, green, red, or use the AI mode, which adapts to the game's colors, but you'll still need to manually position the crosshair.
My only wish was that it could be activated in an easy way, like with a direct button instead of having to go into the settings and do all the configuration. But it works well when activated and can help you stay more focused.
Samsung OLED Safeguard+

For a long time, monitors and smart TVs with OLED screens were criticized for not being very durable in the long term, precisely because the screen pixels would burn out with use. To avoid this, the Samsung implemented the OLED Safeguard+which is divided into 3 items:
- Screen saverWhen a game is paused for too long, the screen will turn off to prevent a static image from becoming fixed and causing screen problems.
- Logo detectionThis is one of the biggest long-standing problems pointed out by owners of OLED smart TVs. The image will be analyzed in its entirety, and when a logo is detected, that part of the screen will have its brightness reduced.
- Pulsation Heat Pipe (Liquid Cooling): An advanced physical system that uses an internal coolant to drastically reduce the panel temperature, preventing overheating that leads to... burn-in.
The feature I saw in action most often was the screensaver protection, which turns off the screen ten seconds after a static scene is detected. I had the monitor for two weeks and used this feature from day one. OLED Safeguard+ This feature increases the monitor's lifespan, preventing you from needing to replace it anytime soon, and is included in the package to make the delivery even more complete.

Although the device has limited connectivity options, it still delivers fantastic visuals for games, and its additional features maintain a good experience, ensuring screen longevity so you can enjoy years of trouble-free use.
The Odyssey OLED G5 goes beyond being just a gaming monitor, proving to be a good option for working and watching content, even though it wasn't primarily designed for that. It's a model I would easily adopt for my daily use, both for gaming and writing for my work. showmetech.
The recommendation is to buy now, and if it can be found for around R$ 2.500 during special periods, it could be a sound long-term investment.
