Motorola edge 30 in its 3 colors

REVIEW: motorola edge 30

Tiago Rodrigues Avatar
The motorola edge 30 is Motorola's flagship launch in the mid-range segment. Is he good? Check out!

At the beginning of the year we had the launch of motorola edge 30 pro, top of the line smartphone motorola and it proved to be an excellent device, even if it lacks in some respects. Now it's time for moto edge 30, “younger” brother of the “edge 30” family that brings good hardware, but will it be enough? Check it out in our full review.

Design

O moto edge 30 it has a nice design made of plastic on the back, but make no mistake, this is far from a negative point, as it rarely got too hot. Furthermore, the finish motorola that back is so beautiful that you only realize it's plastic if you keep analyzing every detail.

We have a set of 3 camera sensors on the back that follow the color of the device (blue), but that are well jumped and, if you choose to use it without cases, you will feel a negative impact on the use of the device when you put it on the table. , for example.

The layout of the buttons is the same as on most devices: power and volume button on the right, USB-C port on the bottom with one of the sound outputs and the chip drawer. Unlike the more powerful brother, here we have the biometric sensor under the screen and not on the side — which worked much better, by the way.

The front of the motorola edge 30 has a hole-punch camera

On the front of the motorola edge 30 we have a hole-shaped camera at the top of the screen, accompanied by the second speaker, thus forming stereo audio.

I briefly commented on this in the review of motorola edge 30 pro, here we repeat the dose of having the nomenclature edge, but the design is flat and practically borderless and in the case of the more modest model, we don't have any function that uses borders, such as the smart sidebar, for example.

In the box there is an in-ear headphone with USB-C port, transparent case, 33W TurboPower charger and manuals.

Fabric

Motorola edge 30 has an excellent display

This is the most fun part of testing new devices, and luckily, it's getting harder and harder to find devices with bad screens. In the case of our moto edge 30, we have a 1080″ Full HD+ panel (2400 x 6,6 pixels) with pOLED technology and a refresh rate of 144Hz.

To get the most out of screen usage in streams, games or day-to-day with social networks and emails, it also has HDR10+ and a pixel density of 405 ppi.

In terms of protection, we have the Gorilla Glass 3, but I think it could be a more recent version, since the smartphone is not the cheapest.

This spec combo makes the Edge 30 a great smartphone for the most diverse situations. The size is good for playing games and for watching movies and series and the technologies that make up this screen also collaborate so you don't have problems using it on a daily basis either.

Battery

The battery of the moto edge 30 it is 4020mAh and although it is not bad, I felt that it is always bumping into the “could be a little bigger”. In testing, there were times when I felt like she did really well, and in others it felt like she was overspending.

The most used apps in the tests were the Spotify, Netflix, Youtube e Genshin Impact. On days that I didn't use the smartphone as much, I could notice that it lasted practically two days, but in the most demanding or conventional day-to-day use, the performance was at most reaching the end of the afternoon with about 15% battery.

In screen usage performance, I got an average of 4-5 hours of usage and in that aspect it did well. The Edge 30's biggest battery performance issue is that it is very economical in some things and wasteful in others.

In the last test I did, I took it out of the house at 8 am with about 85% battery. What I used the most that day was Spotify with a bluetooth headset for about 4 hours, but I also needed to use the cameras, in addition to 4G and GPS. It was a more demanding use, but the only thing I used constantly were the headphones and I could only get home with 15% battery by putting it in battery saver mode.

The 33W charger can take the motorola edge 30 from 0 to 100% in about 45 minutes, a long time, but the warning is that if you are used to faster charging from other smartphones, you may feel that it is a little slow, even not being.

Performance

motorola edge 30 processor specs
Details about the smartphone's processor and GPU (Image: Tiago Rodrigues/ Showmetech)

O moto edge 30 is an intermediary equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778+ 5G of 6nm. In practice, we have excellent results, not only because of the processor, but also because of the 8 GB of RAM — which can reach 10 with RAM optimization — and the 256 GB of storage.

The 144Hz screen makes a good difference when it comes to social media and everything seems more fluid. Despite this, in games, a screen with such fluidity does not seem to be justified since games like Genshin Impact e Apex Legends Mobile no more than 60 FPS around here.

Speaking of these games, by default, the recommended graphics setting for both came as standard with a high frame rate, but the smartphone easily held up to the highest settings of both, except for the “original” Apex Legends, where I had the message of device not supported.

During those moments that demanded more from the device, it warmed up in the rear, but it wasn't unplayable and it didn't even lose performance, which is great. On the front the device also heats up, but luckily it remains usable.

Our streams and multitasking, the experience is great, whether for image quality or fluidity. Apps open fast, animations don't glitch and you have access to the entire range of apps on the Playstore

System and interface

motorola edge 30 system interface

O moto edge 30 already comes from the factory with Android 12 and, like the motorola edge 30 pro, has an almost unmodified interface. Using it is simple and thanks to the new features of Android 12, it allows you to natively customize the colors, formats and many other details of the system.

It may be a little strange to get used to the new quick settings bar, but it proves to be quite interesting and intuitive over time, allowing not only a greater view of what each function represents, but also more functions, such as quick access to alarms, Google Pay, Google Home control, and camera and microphone permissions.

Although it follows the philosophy of “pure Android”, Motorola does not fail to put some unique features. The well-known Moto Gestures are here, so you can shake your smartphone twice to turn the flashlight on or off, or twist your wrist twice to open the camera. In addition to these, we have many other functions in the app Motorcycle and the only one I didn't see present in relation to the Edge 30 Pro was the smart notification bar.

Camera

Night photos look interesting with the motorola edge 30 (Image: Tiago Rodrigues/ Showmetech)

rear set

on the back of moto edge 30 We have 3 main sensors, the main one being 50 MP Wide with f/1,8 aperture. For photos with the crowd, we also have a 50 MP ultrawide camera with an aperture of f/2,2 and 118º with Macro function. To finish off the set, we have a third 2 MP depth sensor to help with the effect. bokeh.

The photos with these sensors turned out to be quite interesting and pleased me a lot, especially in night mode, even if some details are lost in this mode. Are there better cameras on the market? Yes, but this kit is far from bad. The only “but”, as with the Edge 30 Pro, was not having a telephoto camera and, instead, a depth sensor. Who knows on Edge 30 Ultra or Edge 40, no?

Videos can be recorded in up to 4K, but limited to 30 FPS and all sensors are available for use, regardless of image quality.

Selfie camera

The front camera has a 32 MP Wide sensor with f/2,3 aperture. It's a good selfie camera, although it depends a lot on good light conditions. The portrait mode clipping is also pretty crazy and he gets pretty lost when capturing the hair. We can say that it is a great camera for selfies on beaches or other tourist places, but if the intention is to be something more professional, then it sins.

In the videos we have the option of up to 4K too, but unlike the rear cameras, we don't have 60 FPS even in 1080P, which is bem annoying, especially for those who intend to use the device for content creation.

Audio and Ready For

Ready for, app to mirror smartphone screen on TVs and notebooks is also available on motorola edge 30
Ready For is available here too (Image: Motorola)

To enjoy all that the moto edge 30 has to offer, nothing beats quality audio quality. In this regard, it came equipped with two speakers, one on the bottom and one on the top forming stereo audio.

In addition, this audio has Dolby Atmos to make it more imposing and pleasant to listen to. When using the speakers, Dolby Atmos is always active, but when we plug in some headphones, we can customize it in many different ways.

When watching a movie or playing games, stereo audio makes all the difference, as we end up covering the lower audio by hand. This doesn't mean that the audio is perfect, but that it's on a good path and it's good to see more and more devices with such sound quality.

Already ready for is also present and if you read our review of motorola edge 30 pro e motorola edge 20 pro, you already know what to expect. as in edge 30 per, we don't have a complete kit in the box, but the features are the same, as is how it works.

Completion and availability

In summary, the moto edge 30 it is a smartphone with excellent design, very good experience with media and cameras, but it could use a little more battery. In addition, even though it is an “advanced intermediate” smartphone, it still keeps the accessories in the box, which shouldn't be surprising nowadays, but it turns out to be.

O moto edge 30 is now available at the suggested price of R$3.999, a value that is not cheap, but does not escape the price of other smartphones in the category. In Lojas Americanas, it can be found by BRL 3.599,10 in cash on credit card. Furthermore, if you buy moto edge 30, you will have until August 14th to win a Motorcycle Buds 085, Motorola bluetooth headphones.
