The Multilaser M8 4G tablet features the Kids Space, ideal for entertaining and teaching children, as well as being a good device for everyday use.

The pandemic caused by COVID-19 has forever changed the way we look at technology. As many of us spend more time at home, access to the internet has become practically mandatory, even more so because school classes change from their face-to-face format to online. In addition, many parents use tablets as a way to entertain their children. And thinking about this market, the Multilaser M8 4G, with an ideal space for children, and with a good parental control tool.

Fabric

O Multilaser M8 4G features an LCD screen with technology TN (Twisted Nematic, “twisted nematic”, in literal translation), that is, it lets the light pass through the pixel in a twisted way, and depending on the intensity, generating the colors. However, it doesn't work if it's not looked directly at the screen. This is fully noticeable when watching a movie or a drawing, for example. If two people are going to watch the same content on the screen, they may not both see all the colors in their entirety.

Kids Space has several activities, including a video section, and of course I went to watch the dear Turma da Mônica.

The screen has a good resolution, 1280 × 800 pixels, which allows you to watch everything in high definition. The glass used, on the other hand, is not very good, and fingerprints are extremely noticeable, that is, depending on the use, it can get in the way when watching some content. But if it is used alone, it is extremely pleasant to watch any content from your streaming favorite. Particularly, I tested watching episodes of Pokémon Journeys on Netflix

In terms of sensitivity, I can say that my feelings are mixed. to pull the taskbar on Android, sometimes it didn't go down at the first command, and at times, using Netflix, for example, I felt commands enter that I didn't do, or I pressed very lightly. This might be good for more excited kids, so to speak, but for me it was kind of irritating.

Design and interior space

One of the things I liked most about Multilaser M8 4G it was your carcass. It is slightly thicker than a regular cell phone and is made of hard plastic, with a slightly rough surface, not allowing it to slide easily on flatter places. Plus, as it has eight inches of screen and a few inches of play, it's perfect for those with big hands.

The volume, on and off buttons are located on the upper right side of the tablet, in a good position, but what bothered me was the location of the power and headphone jacks. They are on the top of the tablet separated by the SD and GSM card slot.

The Multilaser M8 4G can receive chips of cell phones and make calls like any cell phone. For browsing the internet, it is ready to connect to your favorite carrier's 4G networks and works without any problems. Plus, it accepts SD cards up to 64GB, which is a nice addition to the 32GB already available. At first, this internal space holds a lot of content, as children's games are usually not that demanding, but if you download movies and series from Netflix, it can become a problem. But since it's expandable, there's not much to complain about.

Camera

This was one of the questions that shocked me the most about the Multilaser M8 4G. The front camera still uses VGA technology and has 2MP, while the rear has 5MP. In short, both are of much lower quality, especially the front. If the idea is to take pictures, I definitely do not recommend the device, but if you want to take one or another record without caring about the quality, then go for it.

Audio

If you expect high quality sound from your Multilaser M8 4G, forget it. It is ideal for entertaining children in their simplest activities and videos, but if you expect fidelity to watch movies or listen to music, use a headset, which is not included in the package. The feeling I had with the sound output is that I was listening to a headphone output of the most common ones at most. That is, you can understand what is happening or happening, but without much quality. If you want something of more quality, I suggest using a good headset, either wired or wireless, via Bluetooth.

memory and performance

The Multilaser M8 4G has only 2GB of RAM, and this becomes a very big bottleneck for your use. When opening an app, it is noticeable that it needs an extra second or two to perform the action. Another thing that bothers you is the transition between open apps, which isn't as smooth as on other devices.

This also affects gaming performance. I tried to play a game using the game Toon Cup 2021, from Cartoon Network, and is practically unplayable. There are many locks and the commands take forever to be done. Even in simpler games like Candy Crush, in the parts where the story is told, there is a little lag and not so fluid movements. However, during the destruction of blocks, everything worked perfectly, without major problems.

Despite giving some choking in some places more information on the screen, Free Fire worked perfectly

Another test I did was with the Free Fire. Despite giving some stutters, especially in moments with many elements on the screen, it worked perfectly. During the test match, I even managed to win, obviously it must have been all machine characters, since I eliminated them easily, but that's not the case. Finally, for video and audio applications such as Netflix, YouTube e Spotify, the Multilaser M8 4G works without major problems. Just choose the content you want and enjoy.

Connectivity

About Wi-Fi to Multilaser M8 4G It works on both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz frequencies, without major problems. In addition, there is how to transfer files and connect devices via Bluetooth. I was able to pair a PlayStation 5 controller and control the tablet with it. If necessary, it is also possible to connect to the internet using 4G, which depends on the coverage area of your preferred operator.

Child mode

The crown jewel of the Multilaser M8 4G is yours Kids space, perfect for parents who want to have control over what their children access. This space creates a kind of interface that provides only what parents want their children to have access to, such as reading books, educational videos and game applications.

To remove it in this way, it is necessary to enter the password several times, and applications downloaded from the tablet's owner's profile do not appear for children, and vice versa. In addition, the Play Store is locked according to the age of the child. To test this, I profiled a 5-year-old, and all recommendations met this criteria.

O Kids space already has a series of pre-installed activities, and others that can be installed with a few clicks. In the reading session, the books have narration, which can help children to learn. The cool thing is that the actor responsible for the reading does it slowly, syllable by syllable, being extremely clear and didactic.

In the video section, the child can browse through a series of options available in the YouTube, and the app still leaves parents in control. They can choose between using the Kids space of the app or using a Beta version of the normal version, but restricting it according to the age group that the parent wants. This is nice to give the kids a little more independence.

As stated above, memory can be a problem for games and heavier activities. O Toon Cup that I tested was on the main suggestions screen, and it didn't work at all. This can become a problem over time, so it's always good to keep that in mind.

Battery

The battery of the Multilaser M8 4G it has a charging capacity of 4000mAh and there are two things to consider: using the tablet and leaving it in standby mode. In the second mode it shines a lot, as it lasts up to 140 hours. Now when using it, it goes away quickly.

In one of the tests, I left the battery fully charged and played a little over 1h20 of Candy Crush, which consumed a little more than 25%. When watching an episode of Pokémon Journey, about 22 minutes, it used up about 9% of the battery. According to Multilaser, the tablet has a charge to withstand up to 4 hours of continuous use when watching a video. In short, it's always good to keep your charger close by.

Price and availability

O Multilaser M8 4G is available on Magazine Luiza by R$898,90.

Conclusion

If your idea is to use it on a daily basis or use it as a learning tool for a child, then the Multilaser M8 4G is highly recommended for you. Its 32GB of internal space is not ideal these days, but for casual use or for children's apps, it can hold a good amount of data. Watching a video or reading a book can be a good idea too, but if your interest is games then its use is not recommended. The battery, despite not being the best on the market, holds the stride well. The camera is not very good, but it can help a lot if you need to have a meeting or something.
