REVIEW: Notebook Style S51 Pro (2019) just got bigger, better and lighter

O Style S51 Pro (2019) da Samsung is the most powerful notebook of the new generation of the line Style. construction and design

The first big difference from the previous generation is the design. O Style S51 Pro adopts a more premium aesthetic, with the Diamond Cut, which mimics a color in carbon. The outer edges surround the notebook cover with a silver line that makes a good impression and is very welcome in this more adult design, bringing a sober set ideal for environments such as offices, cafes, etc. 

Despite the premium appearance, the notebook only weighs 1,85kg and is 17,9mm thick. In the backpack, it doesn't even look like it's there. I took the Style S51 Pro with me on business trips and did not cause any inconvenience.

Entries and Slots

in the body of the notebook Style S51 Pro there's a set of inputs and slots that doesn't look bad. On the right, you'll find a USB 3.0 port and a memory card reader; on the left side we have another USB 3.0 port, a USB-C port without thunderbolt, an HDMI port, an Ethernet port and a 3.5mm headphone port.

Keyboard and trackpad

The keyboard is another positive point in the product, but I confess that it took me a while to get used to using it without any problems. The keys are lower, much softer than those on the Style S51 Pen, for example, very similar to those of the MacBook Pro, Apple . 

Typing is quite smooth and doesn't bother you when it comes to work and internet browsing. If you use this type of keyboard to play games, you will notice a difficulty mainly due to the delicacy of the keys, accidentally clicking at inopportune moments. Still on the keyboard, there is a fingerprint sensor highlighted in blue. The unlocking is very good and at no time did my finger read wrong, which is quite positive. 

A negative point about this keyboard is the oiliness it acquires during use. As soon as I took the notebook out of the box and started using it, the keyboard had accumulated enough oil to feel like I'd been using it for weeks – even without eating fried foods.

O trackpad, however, only praise. I've already made it clear in other reviews that I'm not a big fan of trackpads, but both the present in the Style S51 Pro how much in Style S51 Pen they are nice, have a great response time and the gestures work perfectly with Windows and certain programs. Because it is bigger, Style S51 Pro you find a better use of spacing and you don't need to play hard, just give a soft touch for any command to be done.

Display

O Style S51 Pro It's not a small notebook: it's a 15,6-inch Full HD IPS LCD screen with great brightness and very wide fields of view. Despite the large display, it is MUCH more compact than other 15,6" notebooks, such as the Dell G5, for example, and fits perfectly in backpacks and suitcases ready to put on the back and travel for work or pleasure. 

However, the color reproduction is not as faithful as I would like, being a little impractical if you are going to use it for jobs that require color accuracy and photo editing. The results are OK for the category, ideal for playing some casual games, browsing the internet, watching videos or editing “less complex” content. 

Performance

As is to be expected in productivity-focused notebooks, the Style S51 Pro has interesting hardware for most tasks. Inside, there's an eighth-generation Intel Core-i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, 256GB SSD and a GPU. GeForce GTX 1650 MaxQ. This video card is especially focused on energy efficiency, which in practice brings a very satisfactory performance and competence in not allowing the Style S51 Pro get too hot. 

In our tests, we played some heavier titles, like Overwatch, and the notebook ran at 60fps without major difficulties. He also didn't bother on his lap from overheating, staying in the average 35 degrees most of the time. The video card has a slight deficiency in loading textures in games, and this was reflected in the first few games of Overwatch, which took time to load the maps, in addition to Fortnite e Blair Witch.

Overall, the performance is surprising and is quite balanced between power and efficiency. In video editing, the accolades remain. Rendering in 4K takes just a few minutes and, without exaggeration, took a toll on a desktop we used to edit. 

A negative point that can be a decisive purchase factor is the measly 256GB of storage. For a notebook focused on content producers, like me, that needs to download several heavy videos, this amount doesn't mean anything to my routine, being necessarily necessary to purchase an external HD or add another SSD - in the vacant slot that the Samsung available on the device. 

Anyway, it's kind of frustrating, because you're already investing almost R$ 10 thousand in a notebook and still having to buy extra parts to make it perfect. 

Battery

Due to the dedicated graphics card for energy efficiency, the battery life positively surprised me. It doesn't get as hot, which already reduces almost half of the battery drain problem, and it also holds up during the day in more normal uses. 

the loading of Style S51 Pro it's also fast, thanks to the 100W power supply – which is very compact, by the way. 

Final considerations

The notebook Style S51 Pro it's the best shot version of the line Style 2019. With a suggested price of R$ 9.599,00, the model has a larger screen, better processing, dedicated graphics, long-lasting battery and a more “executive” design, when compared to the Style S51 Pen. The lack of more storage in a relatively expensive notebook like this is the biggest downside in my opinion. So, already know that it will be necessary to invest about R$ 500 more, being generous, to make it complete.

Anyway, if you are thinking of acquiring a compact and equally powerful product to produce your content and even risk a game, skip a house and bet on the Style S51 Pro. He is the "Big Small" most powerful and balanced in Brazil so far.
