The newest numbered game in Capcom's horror franchise arrives with a bold attempt to blend horror and action. Did this idea finally work? Check out what we thought of the game!

Resident Evil Requiem It became a source of great excitement thanks to its announcement in Summer Game Fest 2025, after all, it brought back zombies, a character from old games, and the promise of revisiting Raccoon CityThis became even stronger at the end of the year, when the presence of was revealed. Leon S. Kennedy, one of the most beloved protagonists in the franchise. But is all this hype justified in the final game experience? I can tell you that it is, but with some reservations, and you can check it all out in our full review!

History

resident evil today has one of Lords The craziest and most complex of video games. Much has already been explained, and much remains open and unexplained. Resident Evil Requiem It bets on a story that is both nostalgic and new for the franchise. We begin by following... Grace Ashcroft, the new protagonist and FBI agent, receives a new mission from her boss. She needs to investigate the Wrenwood HotelThe thing that gets to Grace is that this hotel is the same one where her mother was murdered 8 years ago. Even though she's scared and reluctant, Grace goes to the place to investigate.

The current situation involves people disappearing near the hotel and a pattern involving only survivors of the incident. Raccoon CityAnd then we enter the hotel, investigate a few things, get a few scares, and notice that Grace has a stalker after her. The game then gives us a flashback to when... Alyssa AshcroftGrace's mother was murdered, and the chaos begins.

The first zombie appears at the hotel, Grace gets scared, is bitten, and during the escape, we meet... Victor GideonA character who will be very important to the plot. He grabs Grace, knocks her unconscious, and kidnaps her. It's at this point that the game puts us in Leon's shoes. He's also investigating the case and discovers that Grace went to the hotel. He arrives just as Victor is leaving with Grace, and the monster creates chaos by turning other people into zombies to delay Leon.

Leon tries to reach Victor, but without success. Then he follows an investigation until he arrives at... Rhodes Hill, a large clinic where half of the game takes place. We discover that Leon is after Victor because he is also ill, and from then on, Leon and Grace will have to work together to solve the problems and confront Victor.

The game's narrative effectively manages the game's acts, with the first act focusing 99% on Grace and some moments on Leon, while the second act is much more focused on Leon. In this middle section, the game successfully introduces Grace, her dilemmas, and establishes a connection with her and some new characters, while also delivering a hardcore survival horror game.

With Leon, we have the most classic plot of the franchise, exploring... Raccoon CityThe game balances these two tones well, even though it suffers a bit from the exaggerations in Raccoon City with Leon. In any case, the ending is excellent and, for me, one of the best in the franchise. It deceives us, convinces us, and at the same time makes us wonder afterward if it's really true. Perhaps it's my favorite ending in the franchise.

Gameplay

Grace is also an FBI agent (Image: Capcom)

As I mentioned before, Resident Evil Requiem It's a combination of survival horror/terror and action/adventure gameplay. Unlike the mess we had in... Resident Evil 6in the new game Capcom He managed to separate these two themes well. We have a single campaign that alternates between Grace e Leon And their playing time is well divided, no complaints here.

With Grace, we have a survival horror game where ammunition is scarce, killing enemies is much more difficult, and we are trapped in a mansion, just like in... Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2 e Resident Evil 7I can state that the Rhodes Hill It's one of the best mansions in the franchise, both for its design and the surprises it holds.

Grace can shoot, crouch, and push stunned zombies. A new mechanic here is that she can collect infected blood from the monsters for the crafting in the game. This allows you to create more bullets, ink ribbons to save the game (on normal (classic) difficulty), and also make many other items, such as... Hemolytic Injector which can take down almost any zombie with a single attack.

  • Rhodes Hill is full of monsters.
  • Bucket of blood in Resident Evil Requiem

Playing as Grace is a very enjoyable experience, but it also gives you butterflies in your stomach. The game knows how to use the jumpscares In your favor, as well as in your enemies. Speaking of enemies, what we will face most here are... zombiesThe unique aspect is that the virus in this game causes these zombies to retain memories from when they were human. So, for example, the cleaning lady will continue cleaning the bathroom, the cook will continue cutting meat, and so on. This creates a very interesting and even more frightening dynamic at various points when playing as Grace, because we don't always know what memories that zombie has.

Beyond the horror, some moments with this new mechanic also generate a certain feeling of guilt, like when one of them apologizes upon dying. Or it makes us laugh because of a very random action, like saying someone got fired. In short, it's a very cool and welcome idea.

Leon in Resident Evil: Requiem

With Leon, it's like playing Resident Evil 4 Remake...but with some additions. The man is a war tank, he already has several weapons, an unbreakable axe, and we're not afraid of anyone. It's all easier and super fun to play. Furthermore, it's with Leon that we have the most challenging exploration moments. The Last of UsA very large area that you can explore in any order you want. The idea is good and welcome to the franchise, but at the same time a bit tiring in this game.

It's with Leon where we'll have the big action moments, with great set pieces and that special something. lies I really enjoyed it, but I understand those who think it's too much. Most of the gameplay with Leon takes place in Raccoon City, and while visiting the place is cool, the first part of the area suffers from somewhat confusing level design and a rather tiresome art direction. I think there's nowhere to run in a place that's been bombed, but everything is always destroyed with lots of rubble, so-so sunlight, and a lot of gray.

The game also brings back the shop system in Leon's section, so we can upgrade weapons, the axe, and buy other weapons as well. There's no merchant here, but the rationale for having the shop is good and works for the game's concept.

Playing as Leon is a lot of fun and varied, but it's where I got most tired. The game drags on too long with him at certain points, and when it tries to explore new mechanics, like a 1v1 with a chainsaw, instead of being a fun moment, it can become a burden and a somewhat boring part.

The game also stands out by offering the possibility of playing both on third how much in first person. That's a very wise decision, since Resident Evil 7 He came in the first person and renewed the franchise, and Resident Evil 2, 3 e 4 They came in third, creating confusion, since both forms are great, but work better in different situations.

I also liked that the game offers a lot of... easter eggsThroughout the game, but especially in Raccoon City, we'll encounter items and puzzles that serve as major references to the franchise, the Capcom universe, and even some practically impossible puzzles that had the entire internet buzzing with attempts to solve them.

The game recommendation is that we play with Grace Playing in first person allows you to better appreciate the horror and tension, while playing in third person with Leon allows you to make the most of the action sequences. I played it this way and can confirm it's a good recommendation. However, it's worth mentioning that playing in third person with Grace is also quite fun, although it's considerably less scary.

Location and soundtrack

It's worth taking a short moment here to say that Resident Evil Requiem It all arrives in Brazilian PortugueseFelipe Grinnan returns to voice Leon, and here we have a superb performance from each of the voice actors. If you enjoy playing games with dubbing, you'll love experiencing this game this way.

The soundtrack, as in all Resident Evil games, is another success. It's less prominent in Grace's scenes, highlighting moments of tension and scares. With Leon, it feels like we're in a game by... John WickThe soundtrack is consistent throughout the combat and fits the situation perfectly. And the game even features a theme song for the end credits that is simply amazing.

Graphics and bugs

Just like any resident evil recent, Requiem uses the graphics engine RE EngineIt was launched with the seventh title in the franchise and has been continuously improved since then. At this point, it's safe to say it's one of the best graphics engines on the market, at least when it comes to Resident Evil.

I played Resident Evil Requiem on ps5 slim And the result is quite impressive. The game has excellent attention to detail, especially in the characters' hair, as well as their expressions. Unlike previous titles, this game explores more open fields and at no point did I experience frame rate drops, always running smoothly at around 60fps with very competent graphics quality.

At no point did I notice any jagged edges, textures not loading, or stuttering. As for bugs, I only encountered one, which didn't ruin the experience, but made me laugh. As you can see in the image, the game glitched Leon's weapons, stretching them for some reason.

Finally, it's worth mentioning that the game doesn't include the already known option of... Performance ou FidelityIt comes pre-configured and adjusted to give me the best possible gaming experience. It has excellent graphics quality and runs smoothly at 60 frames per second, with no complaints. If you're one of the lucky ones using a... PS5 ProAlthough it also lacks graphics configuration options, be aware that the game will be available with... ray traces activated.

Conclusion

Resident Evil Requiem is an excellent game in the franchise. It's bold, both in its gameplay mechanics and story, and it makes those choices pay off. This leads the game to make some mistakes and exaggerations, but in the end, these are quite minor compared to the beauty and excellent quality of the rest.

It's a game that closes some arcs of the franchise, answers some questions, but on the other hand, it also brings us new information and even more questions that we don't know if they will be answered with DLCs, spin-offs, or only in the game itself. Resident Evil 10 In about four years. Regardless of how they do it, I want to be there to see the future of this franchise.

However, it's worth mentioning that I finished the game in about 12 hours, a time I consider good, but that... R$300 Depending on the circumstances, it can translate into something quite expensive. Is the game good? Yes. Is it worth it? Absolutely. But if you can avoid spoilers and wait a few months, you'll find the same game for a much more affordable price, and it might be a better investment.

REVIEW: Resident Evil Requiem

Resident Evil Requiem is what Capcom tried and failed to do with Resident Evil 6: a game that blends action and horror in just the right measure. It not only blends these elements, but manages to deliver its best horror moments and experiment with many new mechanics in the action and exploration fields. A must-have title for fans.
