The callisto protocol

REVIEW: The Callisto Protocol, lack of salt?

The Callisto Protocol is far from the best horror game, but it does deliver some good things on the Xbox Series X experience!

Being a big fan of the franchise Dead Space, the excitement of the game The Callisto Protocol it was big, because it is a title that is from the same producer of this renowned franchise in the world of games. Is The Callisto Protocol any good? It's a bit of a difficult question to answer, but here we go.

The game has many flaws, it does deliver an interesting setting and a very controversial story, in addition to a cliché touch that takes us back to old games. But as you will see, he failed in crucial points that deserve to be highlighted.

Entering the ship
The Callisto Protocol

As a lover of the horror genre, both in games and movies, I can say that The Callisto Protocol tried as much as possible to use elements jump scare for the game to fall into the category, but there haven't been many occasions where I've really freaked out, and that's largely due to the gameplay, which will be discussed during the analysis.

Dark Iron Prison

The game is played by the character Jacob Lee, a pilot freelancer🇧🇷 At first, we are thrown into this prison called Dark Iron Prison🇧🇷 It was made for space crimes and, during the game, many mysteries and madness will be unraveled.

The protagonist arrives to transport some supplies to the lunar prison, but he is obviously intercepted and problems begin to arise for the protagonist, who, later on, feels a certain regret for having accepted this job. freelancer.

The moon itself, where we spend the entire game trying to escape, is a well-setting place; the art direction team masterfully managed to insert us into a new and very horrifying world that certainly made the immersion in this world scary in a few moments. A note here is the part of the sewer itself, I congratulate those involved, a beautiful phase of the game that many times made me stand up and tense to get through.

But not everything is flowers, the map is really well prepared, but I really missed more visible indicators to be able to continue the gameplay🇧🇷 there was a lack of transparency, many times I found myself lost, something that made fluency difficult. Even with the sewer part, the other parts of the scenery were pretty much the same, so you often found yourself feeling like you were in the same place the entire time.

The worst part of the game...

And this is where the problems begin. The Callisto Procotol, the game was heavily criticized especially for console players, as the game's performance for many people was not well polished in time. We saw this happen not too long ago with the game Cyberpunk 2077, a game that even before being released by many was placed on a pedestal, but which at the time of its delivery was a disappointment, something similar happens with The Callisto Protocol.

The game's graphics are beautiful and clearly from the new generation, but many times these graphics had some problems, especially when there was an explosion or reflection of the character, which demonstrates a certain haste in the release and a lack of correct polishing. The flames clearly have a low resolution and this gives the impression that not all parts of the game have been taken care of with the same commitment.

A gameplay was the point where the game sinned the most, since it is locked, which is characteristic of the old Dead Space, but for a current game an improvement was expected, and it was not what was presented, mainly in the character's dodging that often did not work correctly and the change of weapons that interfered and that made you be killed because of the animation being good slow, very important part of every game and was not very well developed.

The story that almost won...

The story is what makes the game an average game for me, even though it lacks a lot of explanation, it is, a story that has a very good development potential, I hope that the producers and writers give the respect that this game deserves, I thought it was valid the way they told the story, through audios and few flashbacks(it was supposed to have much more) is a tactic that could have been better explored, where many people could have missed a lot of the story by simply skipping the audios and also by problems that the game offers, where often the audio of the secondary characters simply does not reproduced.

The characters, as always, carry the story of any game, we have the faithful sidekick Elijah Porter, an inmate who helps our protagonist's journey a lot Jacob Lee(Josh Duhamel). we also have the presence of the villain of the story the Captain Leon Ferris(Sam Witwer) and one of the actresses who played Theboys who interprets Dani Nakamura(Karen Fukuhara) who is a mysterious inmate who has great relevance to the plot. Characters that had greater prominence in the story mentioning here the presence of the prison director and also the doctor who was behind the experiments that were secondary characters in the plot.

Fiction, horror game, sci-fi, realistic graphics, Callisto Protocol.

As it is an independent game with no previous story, a lot was not explained, which can alienate many lovers of deep stories in the games🇧🇷 I felt a lack of emotion at certain moments of the gameplay, could have explored better the soundtrack on certain occasions and also the expression of the characters themselves.

Overall, the story was thrown in our faces and for me it wasn't very well developed and needed a bit more flashbacks so that the player could better understand the previous events, but that leaves a gap for a continuation of the game.

Is The Callisto Protocol worth it?

Even full of problems with this analysis of The Callisto Protocol, I come to the conclusion that it is a horror game of the old molds, being it, locked, and that in some points of the experience it brought that nostalgia for old games, which isn't always a positive thing for a game or any media that indulges in nostalgia. The game deserved more polish and better script writing. For those who like shooting games and combat elements with melee weapons, you can have fun with the game.
