After the Instagram lockdown in Russia, Rossgram arrives as an alternative for users, content creators and brands from all markets

A Russia instituted decrees preventing the operation of several services in its territory after the beginning of the ukrainian war. One of the services blocked on Russian territory was the Instagram, the most famous photo-sharing social network in the world. As a result, alternatives such as the Rossgram fill the gap left by the blocking of Meta's social network.

Called by the media “russian instagram” the new photo and video social network has an interface that resembles the Instagram we know. Check out all the release details right now.

Instagram was blocked in Russia

On March 14, 2022, about 20 days after the start of the Ukrainian War, the Instagram was banned from operating in the country ruled by Vladimir Putin.

The Russian state agency Roscomnadzor, which controls and regulates the communications of the Russia, made this decision after the social network disabled the filter that blocks posts inciting violence against Russian citizens and the leader who started the attacks on Ukraine. Such a decision was frowned upon and is valid “only” in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia and Ukraine.

On March 04, the Facebook had previously been blocked in Russia for allegedly restricting the reach and “discriminating” content from Russian vehicles, according to the same state agency. The blue social network failed to deliver the same reach for TV channel publications Zvezda, from the news agencies RIA Novosti, Sputnik e Russia Today, and publications Lenta.ru e Gazeta.ru.

O Twitter it also stopped working in Russia after a local government blockade. O showmetech already developed a subject with all the companies that ceased to operate in Russia as a way of opposing the decisions of Putin, be sure to check it out.

The Rossgram idea

This launch is intended to be an option for Russian citizens to re-post in the feed, Stories and all content that could be posted on Instagram, which belongs to Meta. Rossgram's app and interface are extremely similar (not to say the same) to the Instagram we know, see:

The idea was developed by alexander zobov e Kirill Filimonov, who are working with a team of developers to deliver the best experience possible.

My partner Kirill Filimonov and our group of developers were already ready for this twist and decided not to miss the opportunity to create a Russian analogue of a popular social network loved by our countrymen.

The official website of Rossgram announces that the social network was launched yesterday (28), but only sponsors and media vehicles can use it at this time. In a second step, the creators will allow Russian citizens to post photos on Instagram to call their own.

A pre-registration is already being carried out, so it shouldn't take long for content creators to post photos and videos on the most diverse subjects again. It remains to be seen how long the Rossgram will work without interference from the Russian government.

would you use the Rossgram if you were in Russia? Or would you wait for Instagram to work again? Tell us in the comments!
