the fans of RPG now they will be able to play the new version of a classic online game, in Portuguese. Gamerica, the group's game publisher UOL, is launching on the Brazilian market. The game is lightweight, does not need to be downloaded, and offers two modes: free-to-play with the possibility of purchasing items; or Premium access for R$7,95 per month. Click and Play now.
is a free browser game; That means anyone, with any computer, can play it freely, from start to finish, without any problems. There is the option to become a 'Premium' player – with some perks including access to all abilities (some of them stop at level 5 for free players), access to various areas and dungeons, access to the Premium servers, and more.
Despite running in the browser, it is a massive game (MMO) complete. This means that the more players competing, the better. Gamers can go around the world completing quests, hunting monsters, collecting treasures, improving their skills and killing bosses; on the other hand they can freely war with all other players and can gain powerful items for doing so. Hardcore players will like the areas where the character drops their own items when they die.
The first version of the game, which came out in 2001, is very different from the game we know now. Jagex, the British company that created the game, gave incredible improvements to . Not only were the graphics and platform renewed (in addition to Java, you can play in HTML5), but the content as well.
For those who don't know, the series has impressive credentials: 12 years of existence, 200 million players around the world, and received 2 world record titles given by the Guinness Book: the most popular game and the most continuously updated game in the world. It was also awarded by Golden Joystick as the “Best Developed Game in the UK” for two years in a row. And its developer, Jagex Game Studios, has created more than 40 titles online and collects more than 20 awards, such as “One of the 100 best companies to work for”, “best developer”, “innovation and entrepreneurship” and many others.
The fundamental question about the series' success goes beyond graphics and updates. In the era of cinematic graphics games, it stands out for the primordial element of games: the game itself. Gameplay elements, character possibilities and free development are things that, today, only exist in Triple A console games.
is an RPG consecrated, in which characters are not bound by fixed archetypes, (such as 'Classes') in which a Mage, for example, is unable to wear steel plate armor.
The skill system encourages the full development of the adventurous character and, unlike the MMORPGs modern traditions, the player is free to change his hero's path as he sees fit. This is because it is the skills that define the character, not the other way around.
Are 26 skills, divided into 3 categories: Processing, Combat and Independents. The character's level is a general sum of the levels of his abilities, which go from 1 to 99 each (except “Dungeon”, which goes up to 120); to progress them, just use them. A character in the middle of the forest who chops wood, builds a fire, catches a fish, captures a bird and prepares food will gain levels in Woodcutting, Fishing, Fire Art, Trapping and Cooking, for example. As skills progress, the player has access to more powerful equipment and items.
With “Construction”, the player can improve the quality of his Personal House, with rooms, treasure rooms, chapels, bedrooms, workshops, and so on; with “Summoning”, the character can summon monsters and creatures to fight for him; with “Magic”, the character can cast spells from various schools; with “Prayer” he can pray for protection and help, and so on. And all characters can use all 26 skills.
Another fun element of the game are the “Mini-Games”, for one or several players. There are 31 in total, which involve collecting treasures, traversing mazes, defeating monsters, playing chess, survival, farming and many others. They are in fixed zones, are free for everyone and reward the player with large amounts of experience, as they need to use their entire repertoire of skills to win.
Jagex Game Studios has plans to launch the game on multiplatform, for tablets and smartphones, later this year. Let's wait.
