Samsung must pay Apple 119,6 million for patent infringement

It looks like another round of the patent fight between Apple and Samsung reached the end. The American jury ruled that the Korean must pay a total of $119.625.000 for infringement of technology patents. However, despite having “won” the war, the Apple is not very satisfied. The apple company expected to receive 2 billion dollars. See what was decided for each case:

Patents Infringed by Samsung

• Patent 5,946,647: Refers to text detectors, which turns some texts (email, phone, address) into links

• Patent 8,074,172: Refers to the auto-correct suggestions displayed on the keyboard.

Patents not infringed by Samsung

The American jury found that the Samsung did not "copy" the technology of the patents below and, therefore, the Korean must not reimburse the Apple .

• Patent 6,847,959: Refers to universal search. That is, if the user performs a search on the device, the result can be either an application, an email or some information stored on the device, as well as a suggested website.

Patent Infringed by Apple

According to the American court, the Apple must pay the total of US$158,400 to the Samsung for infringement of the following technology patent:

• Patent 6,226,449: Refers to recording and storing images and audio on the device.

Patent not infringed by Apple

A Samsung well tried, but the jury found that the following patent was not infringed by the Apple .

• Patent 5,579,239: Refers to streaming video over video calls (facetime).
