When we think about switching smartphones for a new model, we usually evaluate how that new device will serve us. One of the main features observed is the camera: how it behaves in low light, how it performs in detail, whether the functions offered really meet everyday use and many other things. O showmetech interviewed the Dr. Sundae Joshua Cho, Vice President and Head of Visual SW R&D Group in MX Business at Samsung Electronics, one of those responsible for the development of the line A Galaxy, to tell us a little more about these models. Come on?
Our philosophy is very simple: whether you are a regular user or a professional, you will be able to record photos and videos with higher quality, using a smartphone from the Galaxy A line.

Camera artificial intelligence on Galaxy A
Among the devices that make up the line A Galaxy currently we have the Galaxy A33, Galaxy A53 e Galaxy A73. The back of these smartphones comes with a set of quad cameras, always including a camera. OIS with VDIS technology, which allows the capture of more stable and clear photos.

A IA (acronym for “artificial intelligence”) that is present in these cameras is the highlight that we will explore in the course of this article. Even being Samsung's intermediate line of smartphones, the models have software capable of working the photo that was taken and improving it, intensifying details, correcting the light and even suggesting what would be the best cut of that capture. See the highlights that make this a great line of smartphones.
Scene Optimizer

By the time the photo is taken, we can already see the AI in action, suggesting in real time ideal settings to achieve the best result in the captured photos. One of the interesting features is the Scene Optimizer, which uses AI to automatically detect what's in the frame and already adjusts settings according to what's on screen to get the best shot. Scene Optimizer works with various factors such as white balance, contrast and exposure, allowing the user to switch between different modes to get the ideal shot.
AI document segmentation

And it's not just pictures of people and other things that AI can make great pictures, digitize documents is also possible. In this case, artificial intelligence makes the scanning process easier, more accurate and faster. The segmentation of documents through artificial intelligence is able to clearly distinguish the background of the photo and the document itself, even if the document is not flat, producing scans that are always very well done. The AI is even able to recognize the text, allowing it to copy it for use in apps.
single outlet (Single take)
Can't the occasion make you decide whether to take a photo or video? How about both? That's exactly what the way single outlet (single take) will offer you. Through this feature it is possible to take photos and videos within the reach of just one click. Artificial intelligence can understand what is happening in front of you and identify peak moments and motion triggers, capturing the best videos and images quickly.

This can be used to save the content made or even to share it on social networks, such as using Boomerangs, for example. In 10 seconds the Single Shot is capable of capturing up to 3 videos and 7 photos for you to choose which is the best.
automatic framing

On the line A Galaxy no one else is left out of group photos — even if accidentally. This is because artificial intelligence can identify and detect people that are within range of the lens ultrawide, which is on the back, or even the lens wide, which comes with the front camera. Serving up to 5 people per photo, framing will automatically adjust the view of the people present.
Our auto-framing solution can assess the scene in real time, and ensure that everyone taking the picture will appear in it.

Portrait Mode

Artificial intelligence will also work on the Portrait Mode, a feature that tends to help center and focus captures even more. Here it blurs the background of an image so the camera can focus on the subject, capturing the details of the face, for example. The dual lens effects and bokeh are some that help make your photos stand out even more.
Depth
And speaking of background blur, the camera is still able to do a sort of “depth prediction” to precisely segment the image, ensuring that what is being photographed is clearly defined while the background is blurred. The Galaxy A line also excels at capturing depth in an image using the rear cameras and technology. stereo depth, which can measure the distance between different elements in an image.
Post production

Even though the photo has already been taken with some details included, there are many lighting and editing effects available to adjust the images until they are perfect, such as the Studio e Background. Artificial intelligence can learn the best lighting settings for specific results, and even you can even control the direction and intensity of lighting in an image after the photo has already been captured.
detail enhancer
Based on deep learning (deep learning), the Detail Enhancer brings even more detail to high-resolution images. In this case, it uses artificial intelligence to replace the steps of the ISP (Image Signal Processing). In order to be able to reduce instances in signal loss, training data is used here, the deep learning model that understood more complex mathematical processes that are usually required with the ISP.
remastered image
Samsung provides the Gallery application to save photos, which is able to automatically detect some common mistakes in photo capture. Poor quality or poor lighting in photos can be retouched automatically with artificial intelligence. This was trained using textures, noise levels and details from millions of images, in addition to using NPU on the device to ensure the best quality for the photos. Among the highlights are:
- AI Upscaler: Sometimes you want to save a photo you've seen on social media, but the resolution is low - usually, social media images are as low as 1MP. The Gallery app in the Galaxy A line uses on-device AI to magnify photos up to four times, both horizontally and vertically, making them much sharper;
- AI HDR: To remaster backlit photos that may appear overexposed or underexposed, the Galaxy A line maintains the brightness of the original image and retouches underexposed parts to restore the original colors;
- AI Deblur: Automatically detects moving objects or blurring caused by a shaky hand and improves image clarity;
- AI DeMoire: this feature is able to remove the moiré – that fuzzy pattern created by capturing images from a TV or monitor. AI detects skin tones, colors, noise patterns and more, removing noise and restoring the image.
object eraser

And it's not exclusive to applications like Photoshop delete objects from photos, a feature that is already included in the models Galaxy A33, A53 e A73. This tool uses artificial intelligence on the device to remove objects from photos and ensure the end result looks as natural as possible, restoring a deleted part to match the surrounding environment.
You can remove objects and people from photos taken with the Galaxy A, almost magically. Just select the item in the app and check the “object eraser” option

AI recommendation
If a photo you love was taken without the effects of Portrait Mode, you can still apply the blurred background in post-production. through the app Gallery, just select “change portrait effect” to make the magic happen, it can also be a recommendation made by artificial intelligence after analyzing the photo taken.
24 hour time lapse
And finally, we also have this tool, capable of generating a time lapse (timelapse) overnight using a single image. Based on your photo, artificial intelligence creates six images with lighting adjustments for different times of the day – be it morning, night, sunset, and dawn. It then combines these images into a short time-lapse video, displaying day-to-night lighting.
To differentiate the subtle details of sky, water, trees and buildings in a scenic scene, the 24-hour time lapse uses a Cyclic Generative Adversarial Network (GAN). GAN is a machine learning framework trained in a variety of different photography styles and effects to naturally restore edges and features.
