Here's how to take a screenshot, also called a screenshot, in Google Chrome, Windows or MacOS

If you are with Windows 10 installed and updated, it is even simpler to take a screenshot on your computer: to do so, click on the icon in the lower right corner of the screen "Notifications", and then look for the button "Print Screen".

By clicking on it, the screenshot tools will appear at the top of the screen. When clicking on the first button, the screenshot format will be rectangular, and you must use the mouse to define the area that will be captured; by clicking the second button, you can freely draw the area you want to print (you can draw a circle or a square, for example); the third button, finally, captures the entire screen.

Once the capture is done, the image will not be saved immediately: for this, you must first paste the capture in a program that accepts images — such as Paint, for example. With Paint or your preferred program open, press Ctrl + V to paste the capture, then save the file. Before saving it, it is worth remembering that you can also crop the capture as you wish.

Like Windows, MacOS allows the user to take a screenshot of the entire screen or just a selected area. To capture the entire computer screen press Shift + Command + 3, then locate the screenshot as a .png file on the Desktop.

To capture only a selected part of the screen, press Shift + Command + 4. This way, the cursor will change to a pointer that will allow you to select the area of ​​the screen you want to capture. It is worth remembering that the cursor changes to a cross pointer.

After selecting the desired area, release the mouse or trackpad button. To cancel, press the Esc (Escape) key before releasing the button. Likewise, after capturing, the image can be located on the Desktop, as a .png file.

In addition to these features, on macOS you can also capture the screen of a specific window. To do this, press Shift + Command + 4. Then press the spacebar so that the cursor changes to a camera, allowing you to select the window you want to capture.

To finally take the screenshot, click your mouse or trackpad. To cancel, as in the previous methods, press the Esc (Escape) key before clicking. It is worth remembering that this procedure works with Finder windows and most app windows.

Finally, if you use any version of Ubuntu — the most famous distribution of Linux — there is a very simple and practical program to take a screenshot of your screen, the Shutter. To download and install the program, simply type the following commands in a terminal window on your Ubuntu:

  • SUDO APT-ADD-Repository PPA: Shutter/PPA
  • sudo apt-get update
  • sudo apt-install shutter

After installing the program, just to click on the icon and a window with options will open. If you want to capture a part of the screen, click on the “Selection” — which will allow you to define with the mouse the space from which you intend to take the screenshot.

Once the area to be captured has been selected, press the “Enter” to save, while the “I” will do if you want undo the selection. In the same program, you can also click on the option “Desktop“, if you want to capture the entire computer screen, and “Window“, if you want to capture the window of a specific program, as is possible in the MacOS.
