Screenshot: Learn how to take a screenshot in Windows 10

There are several ways to take a screenshot, also called a screenshot or printscreen, in Windows 10; check out

A screenshot – also known by the English terms screenshot ou printscreen – is an image that records what you see on your computer screen at any given time. You can take screenshots on almost any platform, including Windows 10.

The Microsoft has a default option that works great for basic tasks, but many third-party programs also offer this feature, but with additional functions. In this article, we'll explore the different ways you can capture screenshots of your computer's screen and windows. Check out:

Screen print quickly with Print Screen (PrtScn)

The button [Print Screen (PtrScn)] on your keyboard you can capture an image and save it as a file, take a screenshot without saving it as a file, or take a screenshot of just one window (instead of the entire screen).

The screen print button can be labeled as "PrtScn", “PrntScrn”, “PrintScr” or something similar. On most keyboards, the button is usually found between the keys [F12] e [insert]. On laptop keyboards, you may have to press the [Function] ou [U.N] to access the resource Print Screen. When you press the key, it looks like nothing happened, but the image has been saved to your clipboard.

Saving screenshot to a file

Press the logo key [Windows] + [PrtScn]. If you are using a tablet with Windows, press the logo button of the [Windows] + the volume down button. On some laptops and other devices, you may need to press the logo key of the [Windows] + [Ctrl] + [PrtScn] or logo key [Windows] + [Fn] + [PrtScn] ”. In this case, consult your laptop's manual for more information.

The screen will dim for a moment and you will see the screenshot appear as a file in a folder titled "Screenshots", inside your folder "Images" standard. The screenshot is automatically labeled with a number. ()

You will only see your screen dim if you have the option “Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing” enabled in your visual effects settings (System > Advanced System Settings > Click the Advanced tab > Click Settings in the Performance section).

Take a screenshot without saving

Press the key. "PrtScn". A screenshot of your view is now copied to the clipboard. Open your image editor, word processor, or other favorite program in which you want to use the image. Choose Edit > Paste to paste the screenshot wherever you want. The image dimensions will be the same as your desktop resolution. Note: On some laptops and other devices, you may need to press the keys “Alt + Fn + PrtScn”. Consult your laptop's manual for more information.

Take a screenshot of only one window

Click on the title bar of the window you want to capture. press the combination “Alt + PrtScn”. A screenshot of your currently active window will be copied to the clipboard, just like in the last section. Paste it into your favorite image editor or document editor.

Take a screenshot of only part of your screen

Pressure “Windows + Shift + S”. Your screen will appear gray and your mouse cursor will change. Click and drag on your screen to select the part of your screen you want to capture. A screenshot of the selected screen region will be copied to the clipboard. You can paste it into any application by selecting (Edit > Paste or pressing Ctrl + V), just like you would paste a full-screen shortcut captured with the Print Screen key.

This only works in version Creators' Update do Windows 10. In older versions of Windows, this shortcut is part of the application OneNote da Microsoft. With the Creators Update, the Microsoft integrated this shortcut into its own Windows 10.

Take screenshots more easily with the Snipping Tool

In Windows 10, the capture tool has a new option "Delay", which lets you capture pop-up menus from screenshots and tooltips. Open the Capture Tool app and click on Delay. In the drop-down list, click the number of seconds you want to wait for your screenshot to be taken.

Now choose the type of cutout you want to create by clicking the arrow next to "Young". You can choose one of four types of clipping: freeform, rectangular, window, and full screen.

Unlike a normal snip, the screen doesn't disappear right away. Instead, you will have between 1 and 5 seconds, depending on the time you choose, to set up your screenshots.

Use Keyboard Shortcuts with the Game Bar in Windows 10

O Windows 10 comes with features of DVR gamepad to record gameplay footage and take screenshots of PC games with Windows. The Game Bar generates screenshots in PNG format and saves them in “C:\Users\[your username]\Videos\Captures”. Before you start using the Game Bar, launch the app Xbox that came with the Windows 10 to open your settings. In "Game DVR", activate “Capture screenshots using Game DVR” and assign the desired keyboard shortcuts.

When you want to take a screenshot, use this keyboard combination (“Windows key + G” by default) and click or tap the box “Yes, this is a game”, if requested. Now press the “camera icon” ou “Win + Alt + PrtScn” to take a screenshot. Note: Keyboard shortcut will only work if you previously checked the box “Yes, this is a game” for this specific game. You will see a notification warning you “Screenshot saved”. If you click or tap on the notification, it will open for “Xbox > Game DVR > On This PC” to view it.

All built-in methods of Windows have their own advantages and disadvantages. If you take a lot of screenshots and want more flexibility than the built-in tools provide, a third-party tool is your best option.

If you don't mind spending a few bucks (but there's also a free trial version if you prefer), the program Snagit is an excellent tool that makes it easy to take screenshots, it has several features that allow you to target specific windows, take snapshots of the region and even capture the full text of scrolling windows as web pages.

There's a free trial you can download to check out before you worry about spending money on it. Once you've tried it, it will be hard to go back to barebones Windows tools.
