HBO's Sharp Objects Won't Get a Second Season

the miniseries Sharp Objects, HBO, premiered on the 8th of July this year. It doesn't even have a month of air time, but it's already been decided that it won't get a second season. The fourth episode of the series aired last Sunday (30), simultaneously broadcast with HBO in the United States.

Who broke the news Casey bloys, the programming director of HBO, in an interview with the website Deadline.

As the series was based on a single book, not a saga, it was being speculated whether it would return for a new season, as was the case with Big Little Lies. However, Bloys said that will not be possible.

"Unlike Big Little Lies, where all the actresses wanted to return to the series, Sharp Objects is much darker, with a much darker character and material. Amy (Adams) doesn't want to become that character again and I can't blame her, it's a very big burden for an actress."

"So no plans for a second season. We are very happy with Sharp Objects existing as a miniseries.“, Bloys concluded.

Sharp Objects became an instant hit when it debuted to 1,5 million viewers on the same day, a number 36% higher than the debut of Big Little Lies.

The series is based on the author's book of the same name. Gillian flynn, the same author of Exemplary Girl, which was adapted for the big screen with Ben Affleck e Rosamund pike in the main roles.

Created by Marti Noxon, Sharp Objects focuses on Camille Preaker, played by Amy Adams, who is a reporter who returns to her small hometown to cover the murder of one girl and the disappearance of another.

The connection to her home and the proximity of all the residents of the small town of about 2000 inhabitants, Camille ends up getting too involved with the case, as she tries to write the story she needs to send to her editor and deal with self-harm and her addiction to alcohol. .

In addition to Amy Adams in the lead role, the cast also includes Patricia Clarkson, Chris Messina, Eliza Scanlen, Elizabeth Perkins and Matt Craven. The miniseries is directed by Jean-Marc Vallée and the script is by Marti Noxon.

Gillian Flynn, the author of the book, also serves on the series as an executive producer.
