Cup Breakthroughs, GTA VI Leaks, HBO's Last of Us, and More – ShowmeCAST #109

On this week's ShowmeCAST we talked about the latest in pop culture, technology and video games. From the new trends in the technological world applied to sports to one of the biggest leaks in the history of video games. In today's episode we will understand a little more about the fusion between HBO Max e Discovery + and what that means for the consumer, we witnessed the first space defense test of the NASA to protect the planet from possible meteor threats and talk about our expectations for the new series of The Last of Us da HBO.

Technological innovations at the Cup

With the arrival of one of the most important sporting events on the planet in Qatar, home to 2022 World Cup, it is to be expected that there will be a massive investment in technology both in the coverage of the event and in the application in the sport itself. This year's Cup comes with several new features with the aim of automating and making the referee decision more precise, while making the lives of spectators in the stadiums more comfortable. 

Some of the innovations present at the event were presented, such as an advanced cooling system to combat the heat of the Arabian desert, new technologies in the ball and implementation of semi-automated offside with the aim of making the game increasingly fair.

New teaser for The Last of Us series

In this week's Showmecast we commented on the first teaser of the series based on the game The Last of Us. Made by HBO and with premiere scheduled for 2023, the teaser shows a lot of action, drama and tension showing important moments in the history of the duo Joel and Ellie, played by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. The series' plot takes place in a post-apocalyptic world 20 years after the world's near extinction and the story will tell about the journey through a devastated USA on a mission where the protagonists must unite to survive.

Leaks of the new GTA VI

In one of the biggest leaks in the history of the video game industry, a user posted on a forum a 3GB file including several videos and images of the new GTA VI. Rockstar, the producer responsible for the game, later confirmed the leak and acted to contain the spread of private information from the company's new release. The game remains without a release date and, according to the producer, with its development occurring normally despite the problems faced by the company.

Space mission made by NASA

We also comment on the new defense mission made by the NASA, the DART. In order to protect our planet from possible asteroids that could enter a collision course with Earth, the US space agency carried out a successful mission to send a spacecraft with the objective of colliding with the meteor and modifying its trajectory. The mission is considered a historic milestone and in the podcast we talked about how difficult it is to perform all the calculations in the face of so many variables to be considered in the process.

Discovered in 1996, the asteroid measures 780 meters in diameter and does not present any risks to planet Earth today, but the objective of the project is precisely to carry out procedures that can be used if a real threat arises in the future.

HBO will not end! The merger between HBO and Discovery

To end the episode, we asked some questions about the fusion between the HBO Max and Discovery +. with the success of The Dragon House, some users were in doubt about a possible termination of the service in view of the news about the union between the two applications in a single service and in today's episode we explain what will actually happen in this process.

The new service that will be the merger between the two platforms should be launched between September and November 2023 in Latin America, with the merger between the two taking place between June and August for North America. Until then, the catalog of both platforms must undergo some adaptations due to the company's guidelines.
