Huawei 5G folding smartphone arrives this month

The Chinese smartphone maker wants to compete with the Samsung in the future flexible screen market. Late last year, CEO Richard Yu confirmed the development of a Huawei folding smartphone 5G compatible.

Today, the company made an invitation on its official Twitter, informing its followers to follow the announcement of its newest smartphone during the Mobile World Congress 2019. The event will take place on February 24 in Barcelona:

Despite not telling exactly what will be announced, the image was published on the social network accompanied by the hashtag #ConnectingTheFuture (connecting the future) and a “fold”, giving indications that this would be the image of the folded screen.

The information can be confirmed by another publication made on January 24, at an event pre-MWC, where the company revealed it would introduce the world's first foldable 5G device. In addition Huawei I had already talked about it in October of last year.

The Huawei Foldable Smartphone and 5G

Last year, the company announced its new chip, tianang, already compatible with 5G. According to the company's statement, the chip should be compatible with simplified 5G networks worldwide.

The launch of this new hardware took place at an event in Beijing, focused on the new internet standard. At the same event, the company promised to present new products with 5G at the Mobile World Conference 2019.

The company is also developing the chip Balong 5G01 with support for Standalone 5G NR created in conjunction with 3GPP, an organization that sets standards for mobile operators. It also invested $600 million to make its devices 5G compatible.

It is possible that this flexible phone comes with the M-Pen, the smartphone stylus Huawei Mate 20X. And, as you can see in the renders below, designed by the Dutch site Lets Go Digital, the device should be used in full size, as a smartphone, with a rear screen, as a tablet and as a small stand-up monitor.
