Spotify announces official arrival in Brazil on May 28

The long wait for the arrival of the Spotify to Brazil is about to end: the company has scheduled an event for May 28 in São Paulo where it will provide details on the availability of the service in the country, which has been in beta since the beginning of this year.

Not that the Brazilian music streaming market is lacking in options: Rdio, Deezer, Xbox Music and Sonora are some of the main services of the genre already available here. Even so, the presence of Spotify, the largest portal for streaming (legal) music in the world with 24 million active users, should further heat up competition in this sector.

Originally from Sweden, Spotify should bring to Brazil the characteristic free unlimited streaming mode with ads (which Deezer has also offered since last month) and its own app store, which lets you add features like song lyrics, Billboard rankings, Last.fm profiles, and other features to the desktop app.

It is not yet clear whether free radio streaming for smartphones (iOS and Android) will also be available, but this and other questions should be answered very soon.
