in week of San Diego Comic Con, pop culture fans are getting news that gives them reason to celebrate every day. And who can be happy and celebrate now are the fans of Star Trek. During the panel Star Trek: Discovery at SDCC, the co-creator of the series, Alex kurtzman, announced a miniseries called Star Trek: Short Treks, derived from the series made by CBS, with the aim of delving into the universe and main characters of the new phase of the saga.
Star Trek Discovery: What You Need to Know
Star Trek Discovery brings together the essential points for understanding the news, its practical use, and the main implications for readers.

A short treks will be bonus content, with new episodes airing on CBS All Access, the CBS channel's streaming service, monthly. With about 10 to 15 minutes, the co-creator sees in the miniseries an opportunity to “delve deeper into the storytelling and exploration of the characters and elements of Star Trek's expanded universe."
How does the The Verge, an episode, for example, is expected to bring a more intimate look, as well as more information, on Lieutenant Saru, the first alien of the Kelpien race to join Starfleet.
In a press release, Kurtzman also said that each episode will deliver clues about what to expect in the future of Star Trek: Discovery. In addition to, of course, introducing new characters that could be part of the Star Trek universe.
However, there is still no forecast for the date of the first episode of Star Trek: Short Treks. Most likely they will start to be made available along with the release of Discovery's second season.
What's New From Star Trek: Discovery
During the San Diego Comic Con panel, it was shown the second season trailer from Star Trek: Discovery. And another novelty is that Kurtzman confirmed that Spock will appear in the new season. And not alone: the Captain Christopher Pike will also appear in new episodes of the series. He was the first captain to appear in the Star Trek universe, being in command of the USS Enterprise in the pilot of the original 1966 series.

Behind the scenes, however, was tense. In June, producers Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts were fired over budget cuts and allegations of abuse by the writers. It was later announced that Kurtzman would take over the position, in addition to already having his duties as an executive producer.
He even signed a five-year deal with CBS, which not only means more episodes of Star Trek: Discovery, but other variants and series within the Star Trek universe. There are rumors that some derivative product can, for example, bring the return of Patrick Stewart, the eternal captain Jean Luc Picard, on the Serie.
But while those new series, miniseries, and other spin-offs aren't coming out, you can check out the exclusive trailer for Star Trek: Discovery that was shown at Comic Con:
