With the end of E3, one of the most iconic events in the world of video games and responsible for announcing new releases in the industry, June will not be empty for game lovers. Several events emerged to fill the gap left by Electronic Entertainment Expo, promising to bring news, launches and discussions about the future of the industry. Among the most anticipated replacements are the Game Summer Fest, Xbox Games Showcase, Nintendo Direct and Ubisoft Forwards. These events, each with their own unique approach and attractions, promise to keep the gaming community connected and excited about industry innovations and revelations.

What happened to E3?
A Electronic Entertainment Expo, Better known as E3, was for years the video game industry's main event, attracting developers, publishers, journalists and fans from around the world for a celebration of launches, announcements and innovations. However, in recent years, the fair faced several challenges that culminated in its decline and, subsequently, its end being confirmed by the ESA (Entertainment Software Association), event administrator.
A E3, in its origins, its main objective was to be a major information hub for the video game industry. Journalists went to the event to cover major launches and write about them in magazines, publicizing these news to the rest of the world. However, with the advent of the internet, companies no longer depend on a centralizing event, as now each one can hold their own show, whether in person or online. Even in the last years of E3, some companies such as Nintendo e Ubisoft already held parallel events, independent of the fair organized by ESA.
With the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, companies increasingly chose to move away from E3, realizing the good reception from the public with their own events. Big companies like Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo chose to hold independent events, such as the Nintendo Direct and Playstation Showcase, instead of attending E3.
The lack of participation of these big brands, combined with the growing popularity of alternative digital events, such as Game Summer Fest, organized by Geoff Keighley, and the logistical difficulties of organizing a large event in uncertain times, contributed to the decision to close the E3. In 2022, the absence of an in-person event and low adherence to the online format sealed the fate of E3, leading organizers to cancel subsequent editions.
With the definitive disappearance of E3, the gaming events calendar has been filled with new initiatives and the expansion of existing events, ensuring that the gaming community continues to have access to major reveals and innovative experiences. One of the main responsible for this movement was the Game Summer Fest, which not only promotes its own conference, but also supports other events, becoming a kind of new hub for online broadcasts with news from the video game industry.

Guerrilla Collective Showcase

Access-Ability Showcase

Laura Kate Dale, accessibility consultant and weekly show host Access-Ability No. YouTube, will lead the show, which will include exclusive trailers, release dates and discussions about new gameplay features. Game Summer Fest
With more than 55 confirmed partners, Summer Game Fest Opening Showcase is one of the biggest hopes for great announcements and one of the most anticipated events on the video game industry calendar. Produced and presented by Geoff Keighley, the show will once again be two hours long, featuring a selection of premieres (or World Premiere, as it is called at the event) and special guests. The production of the event is the same responsible for the The Game Awards, therefore, we can expect a high investment in both impactful new ads and structure. Some of the companies confirmed at the event are Annapurna Interactive, Bandai Namco, Capcom, Devolver Digital, PlayStation, Sega, Ubisoft e Xbox.

Day of the Devs
Broadcast in partnership with Summer Game Fest 2024 Opening Showcase, Day of The Devs 2024: Summer Game Fest Edition is an event dedicated to smaller games and indie developers. Lasting two hours, the companies that will announce new features have not yet been confirmed, but in the 2023 edition, we had great indies such as Viewfinder, Cocoon, Eternalnights e Beastieball presented in detail. Therefore, the event is an excellent opportunity to discover new games, as developers have screen time to explain in detail the projects under development and present their mechanics and narratives to the public.

Return Direct
O Return Direct is an annual digital presentation organized by Devolver Digital, a publisher known for its eclectic and innovative catalog of independent games. Characterized by an irreverent and humorous style, the event mixes announcements of new games, trailers and title updates with satirical sketches that parody the conventions of the video game industry. The event is celebrated for its creative approach, which not only informs but also entertains viewers, highlighting the boldness and originality that define the company behind the event. Future of Play Direct
O Future of Play Direct is a digital presentation focused on showcasing innovations and emerging trends in the world of video games, with a special focus on independent developers and creative projects. Organized by GLITCH, a platform dedicated to promoting diversity and innovation in the games industry, the event features a mix of trailers, new title announcements, and developer interviews and panel discussions, providing an in-depth look at the creative process and the new directions it takes the games are taking.
One of the studios that may present new features is Studio Pixel Punk, a Brazilian team made up of just two women, who were responsible for developing unsighted and now they work on their new game, ABYSS X ZERO, a 3D metroidvania that promises a lot.

Wholesome Direct 2024
Organized by Wholesome Games, a community that celebrates and supports game developers with a lighter and more positive approach, the Wholesome Direct is a digital presentation dedicated to highlighting precisely those games that promote themes of kindness, comfort and positivity. The event features a variety of trailers, announcements and gameplay demos from independent games that value creativity and well-being, and on its official social media account X, it was announced that more than 800 games were registered for the event, which will be curated and some may be presented live for the first time to the public.

Latin American Games Showcase
O Latin American Games Showcase is a digital event dedicated to highlighting and celebrating the creativity and innovation of game developers in Latin America. Focused on promoting cultural diversity and emerging talent in our region, the event features a variety of trailers with announcements of new games with the aim of giving visibility to independent projects and smaller studios that often do not receive the attention they deserve at global events. O Latin American Games Showcase highlights games developed in the LATAM region and by Latin Americans around the world, and in the 2023 edition, it presented titles such as Mariachi Legends, Bem Feito and A Tiny Sticker Tale, Among others.

Women Led Games
As the name suggests, Women Led Games Showcase is an event announcing games developed by studios led and mostly made up of women. Being presented right after the Latin American Games Showcase, the aim of the event is to give visibility and recognition to talented female developers, providing a platform for their voices and creations to be heard and appreciated by a global audience. In the edition held in March 2024, the Women-Led Games presented Sunny Side, The Heirloom, Tiny Glade, Cabernet, among other titles, in other words, wait for an event where you can meet new indies with incredible and innovative ideas that you've never seen before.

Future Games Show: Summer Showcase
O Future Games Show: Summer Showcase is a presentation dedicated to revealing and promoting new games, technologies and trends in the video game industry, thinking about the future of the industry. Organized by GamesRadar +, the event takes place several times a year and features a mix of trailers, announcements, gameplay demos, and developer interviews. If you follow the dimensions of the 2023 event, this year's event will feature around 50 new games for the main platforms on the market.

Xbox Games Showcase + Black Ops 6 Direct
O Xbox Games Showcase It is certainly one of the most anticipated events this year and is scheduled to take place in two distinct parts. According to information released by Xbox Wire, the first part of the event will be dedicated to presenting games from Activision, Blizzard, Bethesda, Xbox Game Studios and its development partners.
We hope to see news about titles like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, the expansion Shattered Space all with Starfield, possible updates on the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and (who knows) even a new trailer for Fable. According to Tom Warren of The Verge, we will also get a glimpse of the next title in the franchise Gears. The second part of ShowCase will be focused exclusively on the new Call of Duty Black Ops 6, promising details about the game's gameplay, campaign and online modes.

PC Gaming Show
O PC Gaming Show is an annual event focused exclusively on computer games, organized by PC Gamer in collaboration with several video game industry partners. Recognized as the world's largest PC gaming event, more than 50 games will be showcased during this year's show. The event will also feature interviews with developers, exclusive announcements and new trailers, as in the 2023 edition, which revealed Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector.

Ubisoft Forward 2024
O Ubisoft Forwards is a recurring digital event organized by Ubisoft, one of the world's leading video game developers and publishers. With the aim of sharing the latest news about projects being developed by the company, the Ubisoft Forward 2024 must present news about star wars outlaws, maybe more news about the remake of Prince of Persia and gameplay Assassin's Creed Shadows, the new game in the franchise that will take place in Japan and will feature two new protagonists.

Gamescom Latam
Despite not being on the calendars of major game announcement events, we cannot leave out Gamescom Latam, which is scheduled to take place from June 26th to 30th, 2024 at São Paulo Expo. The in-person event promises to bring an unprecedented fusion between the renowned Gamescom, the world's leading games fair, and the prestigious BIG Festival, recognized as the largest games festival in Latin America.
