During Direct (webcast that brings the latest news from Nintendo) today, the Nintendo announced that “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" will be the title of the new film about the most famous plumber in gaming. The new film will use the games of the same name as the basis for its story. Watch the teaser below and learn more about the film, which hits theaters in 2026.
Story of the new film

Launched in 2007 for the Nintendo Wii, Super Mario Galaxy brought gravity mechanics as a major innovation, which allowed players to explore spherical planets, jump between different gravitational fields and even walk upside down. Mario, with the help of the mysterious Rosalina and her Lumas, must travel through several galaxies to collect “Power Stars” and save Princess Peach, who, once again, has been kidnapped by Bowser (but now she has been taken to the center of the universe).
The sequence, Super Mario Galaxy 2, arrived in 2010, improving on the successful formula of its predecessor. The game retained the space theme and gravity-based gameplay, but introduced significant new features, such as a more direct progression map and the return of Yoshi as a rideable companion with unique abilities. New transformations and power-ups for Mario were also added, resulting in an even more varied and creative experience, often considered by critics to be one of the best in the series.

Both titles were huge commercial successes for the Nintendo: the first Super Mario Galaxy reached the milestone of over 12 million copies sold worldwide. Its sequel, Super Mario Galaxy 2, also had an impressive sales performance, surpassing the mark of 7 million units sold.
