Tiago Rodrigues Avatar
Between VR and AR games and apps, you will discover an extremely interesting world in this list

Technology in general has been surpassing itself every day and more than ever, mobile devices stand out in the market. Thanks to this, “cheap” devices already have processors that allow you to enjoy games and VR (Virtual reality) to AR (Augmented Reality) on Android and iOS. However, this technology is still under development to be popular with the people, either because of its high price or lack of optimization to avoid headaches, nausea and other unpleasant situations.

Before delving deeper here, it is necessary to talk about the differences between VR and AR technologies. Although very similar, including accessories, they have a completely different use. While with VR we are literally thrown into other worlds through games and apps using glasses like the Playstation VR, Quest glasses or even the Google CardBoard, in AR (Augmented Reality) the app or game uses the camera and processing of your device to create elements on the image or using artificial intelligence.

A good example of this type of technology is the game Pokemon GO, in which, when activating the AR, the Pokémon “appear” in our reality. apps like Instagram e Snapchat today they use a lot of AR technology in their crazy effects, whether to change the color of your hair or to have Naruto running beside you in a video, for example. Whatever the situation, both technologies are interesting, but have not yet reached their peak. Now that you know the main difference between each of them, let's go to our list of VR and AR games and apps where we will have a mix of things.

InCell VR (Android and iOS)

Inside the cells.

InCell V is a racing and strategy game in which you are thrown into the world of human cells and your mission is to save them. With the use of Virtual Reality, the game provides a very interesting look along with a pinch of science. In this “micro world” you will face the strength of some viruses, explore these cells and all that using Virtual Reality.

Despite its simplicity, it works very well and is a great introduction to VR games. The game is also a good option for children as it has a very interesting scientific content contextualizing what is fighting in the cells and how to find a cure for the problems there. The only point, however, is that the game is all in English, so if you don't know the basics of the language, this can be a problem.

The game is free on both Android how much in iOS and it also works without the use of VR accessories, but that takes away from the experience. There are several purchase options on the market today, but they are quite expensive. If you feel like trying out the technology on a budget, you can try making your own VR glasses, as shown in this video:

Space Station VR (Android)

Have you ever wanted to explore a spaceship before? Well, with the Space Station VR you may. By placing you inside a spaceship, this simulator in Virtual Reality allows you to explore not only the spaceship, but also to have a glimpse of the planet Refuge. All this together with great, relaxing music. (https://hoyoskitchen.com)

The game perhaps lacks a little in terms of graphics, however, it manages to deliver a great experience when it comes to testing Virtual Reality resources. In addition to the main ship, if you do everything right, you will also be able to explore some areas of the planet Refuge. Regardless of how you play, exploring the surroundings seems like a good option.

The game is only available for Android and it is highly recommended that you use one of the VR glasses, whether handmade or purchased, such as the VR Box, “cheap” Virtual Reality glasses and will already meet your initial desires with technology.

Sisters VR (Android and iOS)

And here begins what I think is the best thing about the VR experience: horror games. sisters VR puts you in a mansion where two sisters lived and well, you're basically going to live a ghost story inside that mansion with these sisters, so put on your VR glasses and enjoy this is one of the best games for VR Box. More than the others I've talked about so far, this one really needs a Google CardBoard or similar to have a good experience.

Sisters VR is available for Android e iOS and it's completely free, just having a Virtual Reality accessory to enjoy the full experience. remembering that you you can make one from scratch with cardboard for little money.

11:57 VR (iOS)

Em 11:57 you will experience a mini horror movie with the best in VR technology. Although short, the interactive movie has a 360º view that allows you to interact in all directions to try to understand what is happening. In addition to that, we have an excellent work on the audio issue, which uses binaural sound here to make everything more realistic and leave you fully immersed.

Currently the “interactive film” is only available for iOS on mobile devices, but it is possible to experience the same through Windows using a Oculus Rift. My recommendation is that you don't research too much about what it is about. 11:57, just get yourself some VR Glasses and enjoy your five minutes of high quality scares.

VR Theater for CardBoard (Android)

And in our last list of VR games and apps on the list, there's nothing better than an app for you to watch your movies and videos with Virtual Reality technology. How VR Theater for CardBoard you will be able to watch any video you have saved on your device in Virtual Reality. You can try downloading videos of people on roller coasters, for example, to try and create your own VR experience.

The app is very complete and works with all the gestures that a VR kit can offer. You can pause the video, fast-forward it and even decide if it will be in 3D or 2D mode. Here what will really decide if the experience will be good or not will be your choices of videos and how creative you are to use them. It is available for Android and it is imperative that you use a VR accessory.

Just a Line (Android and iOS)

And from here we will enter the world of apps with AR (Augmented Reality). The first of them is the Just a line, an app that uses this technology for you to draw whatever you want and put it in Augmented Reality. Depending on your creativity, you can create very interesting scenarios with different perspectives.

It's a simple app, but it takes full advantage of technology. It's not as simple to make the designs as we're shown in the ad videos, but it's still quite fun and intuitive. An interesting point is that you can record mini videos of the moment you are drawing to send later.

You draw on the screen and, with the help of Augmented Reality, you can use these drawings in a variety of ways.

The app is available for both Android how much for iOS and can be downloaded for free. It also has a feature to draw with a partner, where it looks for people close to you who have the app installed to collaborate.

SkyView (iOS and Android)

If you are one of those curious about outer space, this is the perfect app. Available for both Android and iOS, Skyview uses Augmented Reality and other sensors on your device to show you in real time where the planets, the Moon, constellations and even things like the Hubble Space Telescope.

All those things mentioned above are customizable and you can define exactly what you would like to see in the app through the settings, from using the AR function to the size of the planets. These settings also include alternatives, such as whether or not you want the art of the constellations, their lines and even time travel to see how — possibly — the planets and other space “beings” will be in a few years.

Although very interesting, in its free version, most of these things are limited. You will still be able to follow the main planets and Moon, for example, but you will not have access to most satellites and not even the so-called "sightings” in the app, a function that sets the time for major astronomical events, such as a different star or planet that will be visible to the naked eye.

Anyway, the paid version of the app is relatively cheap. In the case of Android, the app can be placed in the family library and used by everyone who is in it, paying only one license, which costs R$11,90 for both Android how much for iOS.

BBC Civilizations AR (Android and iOS)

If the Skyview is recommended for astronomy enthusiasts, with the BBC Civilizations AR we have the equivalent for history buffs. With this app you will learn about various historical artifacts from different times. The app relies on genres like “Early Civilizations”, “Human Body”, “Faith” and others to categorize these artifacts around the world.

In addition to telling the story about each artifact you choose, when you tap on it, you'll have the option to discover more about it with audio and texts, as well as an "x-ray" mode where you can explore it in more detail. All this can be done in Augmented Reality, but here is a warning that at least on my device (Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite) the AR function was not available at all. On Redmi Note 8 it worked normally.

If for some reason the app doesn't want to work with Augmented Reality on your device, it's still worth it for its content. It didn't receive the proper localization for Portuguese, but because it's completely free, it's worth testing. It is available for Android at Play Store and for iOS at App Store.

Ink Hunter (Android and iOS)

Are you thinking about getting a tattoo and are afraid of how it will look? How Ink hunter you can use Augmented Reality to “tattoo” yourself virtually and see the result. The designs you find there are all from the community and you can also upload your own design or text to use as a “virtual tattoo” reference.

The question of Augmented Reality comes in when painting your body. You can simply choose one of the images and try to place it using the app's camera in the conventional way, or you can activate the AR function where you will have to draw a "smile" in the place where you want the tattoo to be done. Artificial intelligence will recognize that “smile” and automatically apply the tattoo to the chosen location.

The app is available for Android e iOS and as I said, although it doesn't have any such innovative function of technology, it is very useful for you to have a sense of what will be forever stamped on your body.

Google Lens (Android and iOS)

Perhaps the most underrated on the list, the Google Lens you can do a variety of things just using your camera. In addition to conventional research, it is also possible to translate things into a variety of languages, seek help with homework, shop and many others.

You can use your device's camera either in real-time with the app to search for the content in question, or you can simply pull an image directly from your gallery and search the details of it. If you take a cover of a book or game, for example, the Google Lens will capture the logo of the publisher, developer and other details that usually come on the cover and give you as much detail as possible.

Although it's very useful to use your gallery, the app's main attraction is using it in real time with Augmented Reality. Instead of having to search every single thing in the Google search tab, you simply point your camera at the object, flyer or whatever and you already get all the information about it.
