Torrents still have space on the internet? See what we found!

Torrents, for a long time, were the main form of entertainment on the internet. With the arrival of streaming, can they cease to exist?

There was a time when Brazilians did not know the word streaming. If you asked anyone at the beginning of the century if they knew what “streaming” was, they would probably guess that it was the name of some disease and that he had even seen an episode about it on TV. Dr. House.

At that time it didn't exist Netflix. Nor Spotify. And, YouTube he was just an embryo of the giant he is today. At that time, torrents ruled the land! Software like Kazaa, eMule, Ares Galaxy, LimeWire e uTorrent were the download champions at that time.

If you wanted to hear a song you had to download mp3 files by torrent. If I wanted to watch a movie or follow a series online, it had to be via torrent. And, for many years, .torrent files were the main option for anyone who wanted to consume audiovisual content at the time.

The arrival of streaming

Over time, however, Internet access has become popular and connection speeds have gotten better and better. This made room for streaming services. YouTube became the vehicle it is today. Netflix is practically unanimous among Brazilians. And there's no shortage of options for listening to music: Spotify, Deezer, Google Play Music, Apple Music, etc.

The advertising behind streaming services was supported by three main pillars: convenience, saving e legality. It is much more comfortable to watch a movie on Netflix than to go through the whole process of downloading a movie by torrents.

Os streaming services they are also a cheap way to stay legal. Buying movies and records is outrageously expensive. A couple's trip to the cinema can reach R$100. And a ticket to a show can cost the same as your house's water, electricity and internet bills combined.

With these three qualities, it was expected that piracy (and consequently the use of the torrent) decrease enormously. And, as a matter of fact, several surveys show that piracy has decreased. The number of people who use and recommend torrents also fell. Part of this is, however, due to the hunt for torrent sites.

But will torrents ever disappear?

Are the days of torrents numbered?

I find it very difficult. although the torrent sites is a technology that is widely used for piracy, it has other uses. But I believe that the tool, as a vehicle for the dissemination of piracy, will be increasingly left aside.

While the lure of being free still captivates many people, all the work involved in downloading for torrent sites may discourage some people. You need to download a program to download it, find a good Tracker, with many seeds, wait for the download time and, in the case of movies and series, download a separate subtitle. While on Netflix you just give play and ready.

In addition, there are still chances of the user infect the computer with a virus from a downloaded file. All these factors make me think that maybe, who knows, the torrent sites is increasingly left aside by users in favor of more convenience and facilities.
