Treatment that eliminates HIV is presented by Brazilian researchers

One of the most anticipated things when it comes to health, would be a possible cure for AIDS🇧🇷 And maybe, this is closer than you think. This is because a group of researchers - who are even Brazilians - presented a different treatment for eliminate HIV.

“When the patient stops taking the cocktail and the drug no longer enters the body, the virus reappears and rapidly multiply”, explains the infectologist.

Dividing 30 volunteers with an undetectable viral load in six groups, the team started giving a different drug to each subgroup. In this way, the world's first research to do human testing was able to make progress.

“The volunteers who showed a significant reduction in the number of cells contaminated with HIV were those who took, in addition to the three they were already taking, two more antiretrovirals: dolutegravir, the strongest available at the moment, and maraviroc, a substance capable of to reverse latency, that is, to force the hidden virus to appear”, Explain Diaz.

Another complementary aspect to this treatment was the double discovery of the research team. The first of which is nicotinamide, vitamin that can to reverse the ability of HIV to hide in cells.

Furthermore, it was also found that the auranofin is able to find cells infected with the HIV virus and take them to the suicide.

what to expect from all this

“With the combination of the five antiretrovirals, nicotinamide and auranofin, we achieved an unprecedented reduction in the number of infected cells in these patients. But we still haven't completely eliminated the viral load. There were still some infected cells left. To achieve a total cure, we developed what we call a dendritic cell vaccine.”, Said Ricardo Diaz.

According to researchers, the vaccine is made from the virus and the patient's own cells. And, in practice, it makes the organism learn to detect infected cells and fight them.

However, we must wait two months to know the the final outcome of a delivery, not just for part of the process, which must be presented in the World AIDS Congress. Such an event occurs in The Netherlands, names of July.
