The function of Auto Backup from the application of Photos do Google+ is undoubtedly a welcome addition on smartphones and tablets Android.

However, she is a little over the top. After activation, the tool saves all the photos on the device to the cloud, including folders on the Whatsapp. The result is a general mess in the backup, which is sure to annoy those who like organized folders and photo albums.

To ensure your backup is free of “inappropriate” photos and videos, configure the app Google+ Photos thus:

  1. Find the “Photos” app on your device;
  2. Click on the “Menu” button;
  3. Select the “Settings” option within the app;
  4. Select the “Automatic Backup” option;
  5. In the “Backup Settings” section, disable the “Backup local folders” option.
  6. Ready!

Now you can sleep peacefully.

Update: Selecting specific folders

Leveraging reader comment Rafael Portela, we decided to update this post teaching you how to select a specific folder in the Google Photos app. We are using version 3.1.0.162400126, updated on 16.7.2017.

1) Open the Google Photos app on your mobile.

2) Open the Menu. This action can be done in two ways:

     2.1) Clicking on the three horizontal bars:

.     2.2) Or placing your finger on the left corner of the screen and “dragging” it to the right. By doing this, the menu that is “hidden” starts to appear on the screen. This action will be better observed in the video at the end of the post.

3) Now that you have opened the menu, click on “Settings".

.4) Once this is done, a new screen will appear, the Settings screen. In it, click on “Backup and sync".

.

5) Under “Backup and Sync” click “Back up device folders".

.6) Under “Device folders” choose the folder you want to automatically save to the cloud.

.In the example in the image above I selected the “Horizon Zero Dawn” folder.

Okay, here the magic is done, go back to the screens and see the result:

.When you come back to the screen Backup and sync, notice that the selected folder already appears there, in the example the “Horizon Zero Dawn” folder.

And when you go back to the app home screen:
