After Elon Musk managed to buy Twitter, one of the most used social networks in the world, many things have been changing. From mass layoffs around the world to controversy over freedom of expression, Twitter has come up with a lot of news. Just yesterday (15) the new CEO of the social network informed that the relaunch of TwitterBlue, a symbol that shows that your account is official, will be relaunched on November 29, 2022 — and, of course, when you pay the monthly fee for the service.
Return of the old Twitter Blue
Elon Musk says the new TwitterBlue will be re-released on November 29th. In a tweet, he said he would be "postponing" the re-release to the new date "to make sure it's rock solid". The novelty will be made available to those who make the payment of US$ 7,99 — something around BRL 42,40 — guaranteeing the blue verification seal next to your name.
There is talk of a “relaunch” of Twitter Blue because it had already been put in place, but it didn't work as well as Musk imagined. Twitter began rolling out this new signature on iOS earlier this month. However, the platform pulled Twitter Blue subscriptions a few days later after a wave of fake verified accounts appeared on the platform.
One of the most notorious examples of the occasion was a false account of Nintendo who posted an image of Mario showing the middle finger, and another account impersonating the pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly, who posted a tweet saying that insulin would now be offered for free.
The chaos led several companies to suspend ads on the platform, including General Motors, General Mills, Audi, Volkswagen and several others – some of which had already decided to disengage even before this scenario. One of the largest advertising companies in the world, Omnicom Media Group, also discontinued the ads next to Twitter.
With subscription service Twitter Blue relaunched, Musk says changing your "verified name" will cause you to lose your checkmark until that name is confirmed by Twitter. But after laying off half the company and thousands more contract workers, there may not be enough people to actually get those confirmations done.
It is worth remembering that Elon Musk had also announced and put into practice the inclusion of another seal for confirming verified accounts, in order to prevent the spread of fake news🇧🇷 Possibly he saw that in practice it would be somewhat redundant, since the platform already has a similar feature for confirming official accounts, this new seal was removed and there was no further explanation on the subject.
Benefits when subscribing to the service
Previously Twitter Blue offered not only the blue icon next to its name, but also a number of other additional features. With his re-entry, it is not certain whether the previous benefits will continue or if there will be any other type of change. Check out some of the features that were included:
- Access to ad-free news articles (when accessed via Twitter);
- Saved item folders;
- Custom icons for the application;
- Themes;
- Personalized navigation;
- Featured articles;
- Possibility to undo tweets (don't confuse this with editing tweets);
- Editing of tweets;
- Video uploads of up to 10 minutes from the computer.
The official page of the “old” TwitterBlue It hasn't been updated yet, but that should happen soon, now that Musk is actively taking action to make the social network the way he wants. He confirmed that the new subscription will have:
- Ability to post long videos and audios;
- Less advertising;
- Free access to news and tweets for editors who want to work with the company.
