O Twitter announced yesterday (19) a series of actions for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, which will take place in August. The microblog hopes that this will be the most talked about event in history, surpassing the 672 million interactions recorded during the 2014 World Cup.

The social network's strategy is to establish itself as the leading media platform of the Olympics, and even consolidate itself as the main tool for second screen of users. To that end, they will work with advertisers, athletes, committees, and other groups to maximize engagement possibilities.

“During Rio 2016, we will connect fans, athletes, in short, the entire public to the event. Any Olympic event will generate conversation between people who are following that content on TV and brands can take advantage of that. Twitter, being public and in real time, is the best platform to talk about what happens on live TV”, commented Guilherme Ribenboim, vice president of Twitter for Latin America.

The performance of microblogging will not be restricted to digital. They are working on proposals for the city during the Games. One of the most interesting is the twitter buzz to custom bus which will circulate around Rio de Janeiro with a tweet counter and digital windows that will display the main messages shared. People will be able to connect to a Wi-Fi network provided by the bus by logging into their Twitter account, and there will be an internal space for Q&A sessions with athletes and celebrities.

In addition to the bus, there will be tweet projections in strategic places in the city and giant hashtags in the areas of dispute of the Games. There will still be celebratory emojis for the hashtags #rio2016 and #cidademaravilhosa, a hashtag that can be used to consult the medals panel in real time and the Twitter Challenge, which intends to show the backstage of the teams and athletes.

According to the company, more news will be announced for the period of the Games in the coming weeks.
