The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a series of changes to everyone's daily lives, including our relationship habits. Meetings have become increasingly adherent to video calls, but unfortunately this alternative still does not solve the whole problem of not being present at a meeting. However, recently, researchers from University of Western Ontario did the first teleportation holographic in the world, see how!

Holographic teleportation is reality

After 2 years of conducting virtual meetings, we realized that this medium helps when we need to get in touch personally or professionally. This happened when the need to talk to someone was perceived in a slightly more personal way than that offered by messages.

One of the alternatives recently tested by researchers at University of Western Ontario was the combination of hologram with teleport, thus conceiving the technology called “holoport“. THE holoport consists of projecting the image of a person in another environment, something similar to what has already been shown in several science fiction titles, as in the series Star Trek.

To bring the technology to reality, it was necessary for some large companies to form a partnership. In this case, Microsoft was also involved in the so-called HoloLens, the devices used to make the holoport possible. Another company that also took part in the work was aexa aerospace, which offered the program responsible for enabling a special camera that creates the holographic images and the environment around the person that will be projected.

We transported a person from Alabama to London, Ontario, and then each of the students here on the project was able to instantly project themselves in holographic form to Huntsville, Alabama.

These researchers from the University of Western Ontario were also in collaboration with the Canadian company Lep Biosystems, who are now working on ways to combine the technology with medical applications.

Despite being something quite recent, last year NASA also made a holoport of the doctor surgeon Josef Schmidt, to the International Space Station, using technology from Aexa Aerospace. Magic happens when two people use HoloLens, so they can interact in a given space as if they were physically present in the same place. To demonstrate the feat, these same researchers made a video on how this works in practice:
