How to Use iPhone as Webcam for Mac or Windows PC

What is the Continuity Camera?

presented during the WWDC 2022, Continuity Camera (Camera Continuity) is the new tool that Apple has introduced into its ecosystem so that its customers can use their iPhones as webcams for their Macs. The scheme consists of placing the iPhone on a support that can be placed on top of the monitor and, in this way, the device's rear camera is used to carry out videoconferencing and other transmissions.

And in Continuity Camera doesn't just work to capture your face, the iPhone's camera array can still capture what's close to you. For example, in a meeting you can talk normally while showing some project or something similar that is within the reach of this lens, showing two scenes at the same time.

What are the prerequisites?

To use the Continuity Camera through the ecosystem of Apple , it is necessary to pay attention to the minimum prerequisites. Continuity Camera works when devices are close together and configured as follows:

• Mac and iPhone or iPad have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on;
• Your Mac and iPhone or iPad are signed in to the same Apple ID using the two-factor authentication;
• Mac is using macOS Mojave or later and iPhone or iPad is using iOS 12 or later.

You can still use the Continuity Camera in the following apps Compatible on Mac:

• Finder;
• Keynote 8.2 or later;
• Mail;
• Posts;
• Grades;

Windows Continuity Camera

If you want to use your iPhone as a webcam but don't have a Mac to be able to enjoy the new features, you can still do it on Windows devices through a third-party application. Access website FineCam and click the blue button “Download for Windows” to download the application;

Open the installer and click on “Install” (in the lower right corner there is the option “customizer installation“, which gives you the opportunity to change the installation location of the application);

Wait a moment for the installation to complete. Now you will see the application presenting the introduction, click on “Next” to see the guidelines. At the end, choose the option on the right, to connect with an iPhone. At this point you must install the FineCam application on the iPhone also;

After downloading FineCam on iPhone, proceed with the steps and at the end click on “Connect“, if your computer name is displayed;

At this point the FineCam application on the computer should ask if you want to connect the iPhone to the computer. Click in "Agree" to continue;

Now just click on the name of your iPhone and that's it! The application is already prepared to work as a webcam. By checking the application's functions, you can see that it offers a wide choice of filters and backgrounds to match the content of your meetings.
