Ever since the films became a worldwide craze when they hit theaters in 2001, video games have Harry Potter have also come a long way in video games, winning over a legion of fans. The franchise features titles inspired by game mechanics such as The Legend of Zelda e Third-Person Shooters, as well as sports games, such as the racing simulator Quidditch, and the iconic game LEGO. In this text, we will revisit the various titles in the series and follow their evolution over the years. Check it out!

Harry Potter and others Pedra Filosofal

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is a PC game, an adventure and magic game, released by EA Games.

Released under the name of the first film in the saga, Harry Potter and others Pedra Filosofal marked a phase in which the EA Games distributed the development of games among different studios. Therefore, each platform received a different version — as was the case with PS1, PC, GBC e G. Already GameCube, PS2 e Xbox shared the same edition. Below, learn more about each of these versions:

Probably the best known to players, the version of PlayStation 1 de "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" is, to this day, remembered for its characters with questionable proportions and also for Harry shouting “Flipendo”, a spell that was never mentioned in the books, but became one of the main ones in the games. As this version was planned while the film was still in development, argonauts, the company responsible for developing the game, did not have the audiovisual material to base it on, so much of the title's content is mostly inspired by the stories in the books.

Under Harry's control, we explore Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry scaled down to fit within the confines of the PS1. It was made to be a game of Third Person Action & Adventure, and throughout his journey, the player could visit some parts of the castle.

During the story's events, it was necessary to attend some classes, in which the teachers taught new spells that would be useful in exploring the map as the progress advanced, but unlike "Flipendo", which could be cast at any time in the game, the others were situational, with specific scenes to be useful. Among the minigames available, there was the flying one, in which it was necessary to pass with the broom through some hoops before time ran out.

The computer version, developed by Know Wonder, is one of the main editions of the Harry Potter games based on the first book, along with the PlayStation 1 version. Although both are third-person action-adventure games, the PC stands out for its better graphic quality, presenting more visually pleasing characters and without visual bugs, such as facial deformations, present in the PS1 version.

Another point of difference is in the order of events, since, as they were made by different studios, each one had their own vision on how to approach the history of the books within the games. For example, in the version of PS1, we meet Professor Quirrell only in the final acts of the game, where we have a class with him, while in the version for PC, this same scene occurs right at the beginning of the story.

To make the experience of casting spells more dynamic on this platform, the developers started using the computer mouse and its movements result in the various spells present in the game. Of course, all this after you trace the shapes that appear on the screen, in small minigames.

The flight, despite having improved controls compared to the version for PlayStation 1, also follows the same logic of controlling the broom through the air and passing through certain points on the map marked by hoops. With this, it is possible to see that, when the EA was negotiating with the developers to produce the Harry Potter games, some points needed to be met, but each one could approach them as they felt better, thus appearing titles that were similar from afar, but with great differences when played.

Released for console Nintendo in 2001, this version of Harry Potter and others Pedra Filosofal, produced by Griptonite Games, has one of the most different and interesting approaches of the five games released. Despite the great limitations of the Game Boy Color, the company managed to overcome this barrier and deliver a great experience to players, reminiscent of classic games from final Fantasy, with turn-based combat and plenty of map exploration.

However, even with a good idea, it is possible to see that this version had a little of its potential wasted, since we can only control Harry Potter during the battles against the different enemies, which is strange, since fans must remember that in the most of the time, he is accompanied by his two best friends: Ron and Hermione. Hogwarts also looks nothing like the Castle of Witchcraft and Wizardry fans are used to, as its decorations don't make much sense, with strange statues and paintings.

Anyway, the version of Game Boy Color is among the most faithful versions of the books, in which most of the events happen as reported on the pages, with, occasionally, some things changing to adapt to video game media.

Harry Potter and others Pedra Filosofal, from Game Boy Advance, was also developed by Griptonite Games. However, it is quite different from the version created for the Game Boy Color. With a “top-down” look and a focus on puzzles, the game offers fewer possibilities compared to the other versions. The experience is simpler, with events that unfold between classes, challenges and collecting items on the maps. Furthermore, due to the limitations of the Game Boy Advance, some minigames, like the iconic Quidditch, needed to be remade to work on the console.

Second “BenGolus”, at Reddit, one of the developers who worked on the version of PC of the game and helped Griptonitis to create the two titles for the Game Boy. The games were made by the same 8 people, who had to create completely different products in just over six months. Perhaps this explains why the versions felt incomplete upon their respective releases.

The story of the version of the Harry Potter game that appeared on these consoles was not produced simultaneously with the other four editions to accompany the release of “The Philosopher's Stone” in theaters, but rather to fill the calendar of the EA no franchise releases between the second and third films. Since between these two titles, there were two years of space.

Despite being visually superior to the vast majority of its equivalents for the character's first year, the game reuses many of the models, scenarios and other functions already produced in the past for the release of "The Chamber of Secrets", for these three platforms in 2002, a strategy used for a long time in the franchise.

So, despite being a good game, mainly because of the freedom it gave compared to the others, it was just a copy, with some specific changes in the story. Therefore, we will talk more about its mechanics when we talk about the next films!

The film Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was a success in theaters and, at the time of its release, was among the five biggest box office hits in history. But what about the games released for consoles? Before we analyze each of the five titles — again developed individually for each platform —, it is worth noting that most of them followed the same formula as their predecessors, with few changes, which is justified by the short interval between films. Although at the time the PlayStation 2, as well as the other sixth generation video game consoles, are the big news on the market, the PS1 also received the version of the second Harry Potter film for the platform, which was the last one released for it. However, as was to be expected in a sequel released so soon after, the content was largely reused, with some improvements in the technical aspects, such as more polished and optimized graphics — fortunately, Hagrid remained identical.

This way, the gameplay is quite familiar, the story follows very similarly to the one told in the books, including, again, adding some content left out of the books, such as the presence of Peeves — the poltergeist who always irritated the main trio in the story, but never gained an appearance on the big screen - or the Vampire who inhabited the second floor of the Weasleys' Burrow.

Between one event and another in the title, the player had to go to the study rooms, where they would learn new spells from the teachers that would have to be used at specific moments in the scenarios, to pass a challenge or unlock other areas.

In 2002, the sixth generation of consoles was in great evidence and was the true market power, due to the graphic capacity of the videogames and also for the great titles that were arriving. Therefore, the version of “The Chamber of Secrets” launched for these three platforms was the one that received the most dedication from the developers and the result, although good, was also accompanied by some problems.

It is impossible to deny that the great inspiration for these games was the franchise Legend of Zelda da Nintendo, which, at the time, was in its cartoonish era of The Wind Waker all with GameCube. So, fans who were used to Link's adventures through the dungeons, where at a certain point they would get new powers that would be useful to help with the progression of the scenario, resolve puzzle and everything else, they would find the perfect game in this edition of Harry Potter.

In addition, another great new feature for the consoles was the abundance of animated scenes with voices. Even the expressions of several characters received a good deal of attention from the developers, who explored the limits of the consoles to provide players with the best possible experience while exploring the halls of Hogwarts.

A eurocom was the developer responsible for creating the game, being the main company involved with the launches of XBOX e GameCube, while the EA British made the adaptation to PS2. So, although similar, there were still some differences, with the version of Sony having some differences, such as the lighting in the scenery or cutscenes that happened at certain times.

In addition to these changes, there was also a new one that made many fans consider the version of PlayStation 2 the best of all: you could explore the grounds of Hogwarts castle freely on your broomstick and not just in certain areas, as was the case in the other two games. This made the experience of being a student at the school even more immersive.

Unfortunately, all these new features came at a price and, according to several reports from players and even critics at the time, the game required a lot of patience at certain moments due to the loading screens. At some points, such as opening the door to go from one room to another at Hogwarts or accessing some menus, it took up to a minute to be completed.

Although the computers of the time were already at a similar level to the current generation consoles, when the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was developed for that platform, they opted to give the game a treatment similar to what happened in PlayStation 1. That is, they used many of the models that had already been created later and added some new details, in addition to improving some aspects of the gameplay.

The main one being how to learn spells. in the version of A Pedra Philosopher, it was necessary to make the drawings with the mouse, as the teachers indicated in a small minigame. Now, it's just pressing the keyboard directional keys in a specific order, which already makes these parts much less tiring.

Another positive point is its soundtrack. Although the films have already produced a lot of material that could also appear in the games, the melodies, for the most part, are very original, each one made with the limitations of each console and conveying a feeling of being inside that universe.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets all with GameBoy Advance (2002)

While Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets fits into the puzzle genre, most of the challenges are quite simple, with few situations that really require effort or deeper reasoning from the player. In the games of the franchise, it was common for developers to modify some areas of Hogwarts castle to include challenges and avoid the experience being limited to walking through corridors, talking to characters and just following the story. Therefore, even though it sounds curious, at certain moments the player comes across dangerous passages - such as deadly paths to the Slytherin Common Room or rivers of lava spread across the school grounds.

In the handheld console version of Nintendo, the level design takes a more intense approach, with elements such as burning scenarios, cliffs and attacks from enemies like Peeves. These constant obstacles create an atmosphere of tension that distances itself from the lighter and more adventurous proposal expected of a game aimed at young audiences, bringing the experience closer to a survival game at certain moments.

In the West, the version of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was the last game to be released for the Game Boy Color, a few months before it was discontinued in March 2003. The game maintains the plan of all the other titles mentioned so far: to take advantage of as many resources as possible from its predecessor, to facilitate development. The biggest change, however, is the fact that, now, Harry is no longer alone in battles. Ron and Hermione, when they enter combat, remain in good style final Fantasy!

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

After two years without new films, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban hit theaters in 2004, marking a darker turn in the series' narrative. Considered one of the most important and acclaimed films in the franchise, it delves into Harry's past and introduces key characters to the story. In video games, the title brought a significant change: it was the first time that the PS1 and Game Boy Color were left out, reducing the releases to just three versions — one for PC, one for PS2/Xbox/GameCube and a third for the Game Boy Advance.

The Prisoner of Azkaban, although it maintains the basis of its two predecessors — with map exploration in the style of Zelda and dungeons that challenge the player, unlocking spells along the way —, brought significant new features. One of the main highlights is the possibility of controlling the other two members of the main trio. Unlike the version for Game Boy Color, in which characters only received commands during battles, in this version it is possible to explore them on the map freely. Each character has unique abilities, essential to solving specific challenges, and the player can switch between them almost at any time, similar to what we see in GTA V today.

Check out a little about each character:

  • Ron Weasley: acts as the stealthiest character of the trio, perhaps inspired by his older brothers. He can find secret passages scattered around the map and locate hidden items, such as bombs, in bookshelves. However, he has limited access to spells, learning only lumos duo as exclusive magic.
  • Hermione Grange: She is the most powerful member of the group when it comes to spells. Her special ability — passing through small spaces, such as holes in walls — is not that impressive, but she makes up for it with a wide variety of spells available, many of which are extremely useful in different situations. In addition, her spells deal more damage than those of her companions. Her weak point is her reduced speed.
  • Harry Potter: As the protagonist, he has a unique ability: he can jump further than the others, which is essential for reaching specific areas of the map and opening new paths. He also has exclusive access to the Marauder's Map, which reveals the entire structure of Hogwarts, including the exact location of each character within the castle.

Each of the dungeons is designed for team members to have their moment in the spotlight, but as some fans like to joke, most problems are handled by Hermione in both the books and the games. Among the three, she became the most complete due to the wide variety of spells, which made her useful in every possible session. In the end, they still needed to get together so that together they could move a heavy object to some specific point.

One year before the release of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, EA released a spin-off focused exclusively on Quidditch, allowing you to control an entire team in the sport. Therefore, in order to not compete with this title, the new third-year game practically does not address Quidditch, despite it being relevant to the story. Still, the flight mechanics remain present, now with Buckbeak, the hippogriff, who appears in Hagrid's Care of Magical Creatures classes and serves as one of the main means of transportation — with the exception of Ron, who cannot ride him.

Another highlight was the change in the aesthetics of the scenarios compared to the previous games. Although they still maintained a certain similarity, it was noticeable that the new environments conveyed the darker atmosphere of the films, with darker and grayer tones. In addition, the Hogwarts grounds were completely redone, now based on the audiovisual material.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban all with PC (2004)

Although the versions of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban for PC and consoles share similar mechanics — such as individual control of the three characters and their unique spells — there are important differences between them. On consoles (PS2, Xbox and GameCube), the player can freely switch between the members of the trio, choosing who to use in each challenge. In PC, this freedom is limited, with the game itself defining which character will be controlled at certain times.

The way of casting spells also underwent some changes, as it maintained the logic of the games Harry Potter old versions of the platform, in which most of the spells had to be used at specific moments in the scenarios. So, compared to the console version, this one was a little more limited in this regard, since there wasn't as much freedom.

Both versions had their own characteristics, which made them quite unique and adapted well to the tastes of different players. If someone wanted more complete and longer material related to the main story, the console title would be the right choice, as it offered more options in this regard, while the PC it was more nimble in plot and with some other character limitations.

However, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban for computers still had a great positive point in its favor: after the end of the main story, which was to save Sirius Black and Buckbeak with the help of the time-turner, the player still had the option to carry out the final exams of Harry, Ron and Hermione in a kind of post-game. They were small challenges that each of the three had to fulfill individually, which added more playing time!

The version of Game Boy Advance de Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban it was the last game Griptonite Games, responsible for the franchise on portable consoles, launched, before the EA again change its strategy in the market. So, the result of all this can be considered a true love letter to the fans of RPG with turn-based combat.

With the end of the need to develop two distinct versions in a short interval, the developer decided to preserve the approach of the old version for Game Boy Color, abandoning the puzzle format and linear exploration. So, for enthusiasts of classic RPGs like Final Fantasy who enjoy the traditional aesthetics and mechanics of pixel art, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban for GBA delivers a great gaming experience.

compared to RPG's released to GBC, you can see that the Griptonitis really took all the traits that made the predecessors so great to create this one. Hogwarts now no longer seems like a generic setting that has nothing to do with the wizarding world, but gives off that spirit of being a student there. The walls are full of paintings that, unfortunately, do not move due to the console's limitations, but form beautiful backdrops.

Some elements from the other versions were also brought into the Game Boy Advance, since although the combat is turn-based, the trio's exploration mechanics were also used, even if within their limitations. Thus, there are several moments when you need to control one of the trio, with a specific spell to push and repair objects or even light the way.

Furthermore, as was standard Griptonitis in his games, the story followed quite faithfully to the books, with most of the events happening as they were portrayed in the pages of Prisoner of Azkaban. One of the biggest plot changes, however, is a fight that takes place at the end against Draco Malfoy, who never existed, but was placed in the game to serve as the "final boss", before finalizing the rescue of Sirius Black.

Until then, the EA allowed different developers to create different versions of games Harry Potter, resulting in unique titles for each platform. However, with The Goblet of Fire, this approach has completely changed. Now, only the studios of EA were responsible for development, marking a complete change of direction. In addition, the games no longer had different versions per platform and began to follow a unified model, with differences only in the graphics and a portable version for Nintendo consoles.

Until the release of Goblet of fire, fans were used to the Harry Potter games being a practically open world, in which they could explore Hogwarts and its grounds, while doing the different missions that were given and collecting little magic beans of all flavors. Despite the idea being great and almost always well executed, this made the titles very similar to each other. So the EA decided to innovate for this release.

Em Prisoner of Azkaban, a mode had already been created in which any member of the trio could be controlled, so she took advantage of this mechanic and now implemented the possibility of other players joining in an experience multiplayer place that worked very well.

Another major difference in gameplay was that it greatly limited players' ability to explore the map, as the open world of Hogwarts castle was replaced by closed stages, where players only had to face enemies, use magic to solve problems in the scenario and, occasionally, redo the same level a few times to unlock others.

When it came to the trials of the Triwizard Tournament in fact, the multiplayer aspect was left aside, since in history, only Harry was present in them. But these stages did not have much creativity, with the character only needing to run away from some enemies in a straight line, whether they were dragons or merpeople.

Among these 5 platforms, the biggest differences were in the graphic quality of each one and few changes in the gameplay to adapt to the controls.

The portable console version of Nintendo it was a little different, but it also followed the same logic as the other edition. It was possible to change which character was controlling. Each one had its characteristics like speed, attack and defense. Also, there were long levels filled with puzzles and, ultimately, little story.

Another great point in the gameplay of this game of Goblet of fire I was in the mini game of dance, something that was left out of the versions of the other videogames and computers. The mechanic of pressing the buttons at the right pace was also reused in the final moments, when Harry and Voldemort clash between their spells, in good style. Dragon Ball when two kamehamehas they collided.

already the one of Nintendo DS took advantage of the functions that the new console from Nintendo offered, showing extra information on the bottom screen and also adding new little games. However, in terms of raw play, it was pretty much the same as the Game Boy Advance.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

With the launch of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, EA took advantage of the power of newcomers PS3 and Xbox 360 to return to the open world model, abandoning the previous formula that had been poorly received. In addition, the company adopted a more collaborative approach to development, even forming a council with fans of the franchise to listen to suggestions and involve the community in the creative process.

This is the largest version of Hogwarts ever built for a game in the franchise to date, based on images from the films, descriptions from the books, and other official materials available at the time. However, the EA ended up exaggerating this concept, since many of the missions and objectives require the player to travel across the extensive map repeatedly, without any resources to speed up this process.

To fill in those empty spaces between their journeys, it seems that Hogwarts is even more abandoned in the Order of the Phoenix, because it is necessary for the player to fulfill a series of activities that don't make much sense, but are there to have more gameplay time. For example, the danger of Voldemort surrounds Harry's life, but inside the school, he will need to burn cobwebs, adjust pictures, arrange rugs on the floor, fix objects and also light torches, in addition to other secondary missions that are basically finding items for another character.

Dedicated fans of the Harry Potter universe may find these tasks fun, as completing them unlocks a range of extra content, such as never-before-seen behind-the-scenes images and videos. Another interesting fact for fans of the saga is that The Order of the Phoenix marked the first time that some of the cast from the films voiced their own characters in the game.

An important change was also made to the gameplay of this title. Now, to perform spells, it would be necessary to use the right analog stick of the controller to make a specific movement, with each spell having its own specific order. This was to emulate magic movements and bring greater immersion to players.

From The Goblet of Fire, the Harry Potter games began to follow a unified standard, being adapted only for the hardware of each platform, instead of separate versions. In The Order of the Phoenix, for example, the versions of PS2 and Wii had reduced graphics to ensure good performance, with the edition of Wii taking advantage of the motion controls of the Wii remote — this being the version in which the use of spells stood out the most.

The versions of portable devices, however, were a bit bizarre, since it is possible to notice that the EA he didn't put much effort into creating such different products, he just reused as much as he could to earn a little more in sales. At the Nintendo DS e G, turn-based combat was the format used, but it didn't have the same depth as the older Harry Potter games.

The games were just one of several spin-off products from The Half-Blood Prince, released for seven different platforms — and, for the most part, quite similar to each other. However, the portable version had some differences, being, in the end, practically a completely new game.

The two years between the release of The Order of the Phoenix e The Half-Blood Prince allowed the EA improve several aspects of the game, making it far superior to its predecessor. Among the new features, the return of Quidditch — absent for four titles in the main franchise — and the addition of a potion-making minigame stand out. The combat system has also been improved and, although it is still not perfect, it presents significant advances compared to the past. Another new feature is the inclusion of an energy bar, which allows you to view the health level of the character and enemies.

Although there are no significant changes to the map, exploration has also been improved and some quality of life features have been implemented to make your journey a little less monotonous. Now, instead of following footprints on the ground, Harry is joined by Nearly Headless Nick, the Gryffindor ghost, who shows him where to go. In addition, the two characters talk to each other during the journey, almost always about the events that were happening at that particular part of the game.

Another main mechanic in the game is the preparation of potions. For those who don't remember the story in Half-Blood Prince very well, Harry finds a book full of notes from a former student of the school, which contained important details on how to make the most of the ingredients to produce the best possible results, so he uses this to his advantage.

One problem that more demanding players, especially those seeking challenges, might encounter is the ease of duels. Controlling the battlefield is a simple task, and certain magic combos are capable of easily overcoming the game's artificial intelligence.

A point that also draws attention is the fact that the game came out to PlayStation 2 in 2009, even though a lot of content was compromised in the result so that the old and less powerful console Sony on the market at that time could run it. the version of Wii it was also made with graphic adaptations and frequently used motion controls.

The version of Prince's enigme for portable consoles, unfortunately, it is not impressive. Despite the EA realize that just adapting the main game to be able to run within the limitations of a PlayStation Portable ou Nintendo DS and having created something new, she doesn't seem to have put a lot of effort into actually making the game any good.

Here, it feels like the events take place in the unwritten parts of the books, i.e. the boring moments. The few moments where the script progresses are through small scenes of the characters interacting. Other than that, the player can only live as the greatest finder of lost objects in all of Hogwarts, since he is based on this mechanic. Dumbledore wants to explain to you better how the horcruxes work, but how will this detail be an important point in the future? Obviously you won't know, because you're too busy picking up some student's lost shoes or in a mini game meaningless, just to collect items and deliver them to another character.

In the end, there's not much to save in this Harry Potter handheld game universe, but it's good to imagine how the story would differ if the EA continue with the model established by the Griptonitis in the past — who understood the limitations of the console and made turn-based combat games with the charm of pixel art. A full plate for both wizard fans and lovers of this genre.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1 and 2

The launch of deathly hallows in theaters was divided into two parts, and the last two films were among the three highest-grossing in the franchise, alongside A Pedra Philosopher. However, this success was not repeated in the games. Just as other formulas in the series underwent transformations, EA took the opportunity to experiment with new ideas in the games. Harry Potter and decided to follow the market trend at the time, transforming the wizard's latest adventure into a third-person shooter.

We are not going to separate a session to talk individually about each one of the two games since, with so little time between one launch and another, the EA it just followed with the narrative shift. The only thing that has changed from one title to the next is the small improvements to how combat works.

The developer has moved away from producing adventure and puzzle titles to place the player directly in the action, with frenetic combat and enemies that want to see the main character dead at all costs. In theory, this seems like a good idea, but the execution was not so good. There is not a great variety of things to be faced, with practically all the Death Eaters not having much difference in their appearance, since the masks cover their faces.

Harry can also take cover to protect himself from incoming spells and thus last longer on the battlefield, but this doesn't help much. Most of the time, the camera doesn't work well and hinders the view more than it helps.

A highlight is the last scene, in the second part of deathly hallows. It's a nostalgia hit for those who have followed the wizard's universe up until now. As Harry plunges his head into the Pensieve — a magical object that can recall memories — a small compilation of scenes from previous titles plays on the screen.

O Sony PlayStation Portable had already left the scene by that time, and EA chose not to release a version for it, focusing only on Nintendo's handheld. Another point is that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was developed from scratch, and not just as an adaptation of the previous material. However, the result was not the best. Still, if we consider only the fun factor, the portable version stands out a little more — mainly because it covers more events of the story told in the films and books, in addition to avoiding filling the gaps between one event and another with pointless missions.

With that, we conclude our journey through games based on the Harry Potter films. Now, let's explore other titles that were also part of this magical universe, such as spin-offs, mobile games, LEGO games, and the most recent productions that further expand this legacy.

Harry Potter Games Focused on Quidditch

Quidditch, the most famous sport in the wizarding world, has become so prominent in the main games that it has become its own game. These titles move away from the traditional narrative and offer a more action-oriented experience, allowing fans to experience more intensely the emotions of the magical matches seen in the books and movies. Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup is one of the most distinctive spin-offs of the franchise in video games. Unlike the main games, which follow the narrative line of the books and films, this title focuses entirely on the famous wizarding sport, Quidditch. The game was developed by EA Games and released for multiple platforms — including PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube, Xbox, PC (Windows) and Game Boy Advance. The idea for the game came from the Quidditch mechanics introduced in the title Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) for PS2, GameCube and Xbox.

The setting, although it does not follow a specific plot of the series, is set within the Harry Potter universe. At the beginning, the player chooses one of the four Hogwarts houses (Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw ou Hufflepuff) and competes for the House Cup. After winning this internal championship, the World Cup mode is unlocked, where it is possible to play with international teams such as Bulgaria, Japan, EUA e England.

The gameplay is divided between the different roles of the Quidditch team. The gunners score points with the quaffle, the goalkeeper defends the hoops, the scouts deflect the bullets and finally the catcher takes action to capture the Golden Snitch. The game features a system of passes, combos and special bars that, when filled, activate the final chase for the Snitch. Each international team has its own powers and animations, which adds variety and style to the matches.

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions (2024)

After 21 years since the release of the first Quidditch-focused game, fans of the saga have finally received a modern version with Harry Potter Quidditch Champions. Developed by Unbroken Studios, the title is a sports and action game available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch. With a total focus on the wizarding sport, the game allows players to take on the roles of Chaser, Seeker, Beater or Keeper in dynamic and competitive matches.

The gameplay of Quidditch Champions features a variety of modes, including a career mode that takes players from matches in the Burrow to international competitions like the Quidditch World Cup. Players can also play quick matches, train freely, and compete online with other players, even if they're on different consoles. Players can customize their characters or choose from iconic characters from the series like Harry Potter, Draco Malfoy, and Cho Chang, and hone skills specific to each position.

To balance the gameplay experience and keep all important positions active during matches, the game adapts some traditional Quidditch rules. For example, catching the Golden Snitch earns 30 points, but does not automatically end the match — it ends when a team reaches 100 points or when time runs out. Another change is the Beaters: instead of two, as in the books and films, there is only one per team, totaling six players per team, instead of seven.
