The new technologies of Unreal Engine 5.1, together with a good graphics card, proved that Fortnite in 4K is quite an experience

Currently one of the most played titles in the world, the channel 12th hour published a video on YouTube about how a PC with the graphics power of the RTX 4090 to give a taste of what it would be like to have fun with Fortnite in 4K.

In addition to the good quality of the video card, another factor that contributes to the visualization of details is that the battle royale was the first game developed within the new graphics engine. Unreal Engine 5.1🇧🇷 Support for new technologies such as Lumen, nanite and more arrived with the launch of Fortnite Chapter 4. Check all the details right now.

The advances of Unreal Engine 5.1

Fortnite is the world's first game developed within the Unreal Engine 5.1, which now allows the battle royale to support several technologies that were not available in chapter three. Understand how each of them can improve your games.

It is worth remembering that Unreal Engine 5.1 is available in chapter 4 of Fortnite since the 04th of December 2022 and all resources can be used at PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and select mobile devices🇧🇷 Other platforms still have previous versions of the graphics engine, but the new content is still available.

nanite

This resource arrives to deliver even more details in the matches of Fortnite and according to Epic Games, offers “highly detailed architectural geometries”. In practice, each tree, brick or any element of the battle royale will be rendered in real time with millions of polygons and everything will be individually detailed. This video shows the leap in experience:

The graphic gain can be even more seen in natural landscapes and the developer promises high details. To give you an idea of the processing power, a Fortnite tree has 300 polygons and each flower, stone and blade of grass will be modeled individually so that the final experience is the best possible. The technology nanite made its debut in Unreal Engine 5, but only in version 5.1 did Fortnite support this.

Lumen

Focused on ambient lighting for better matches in various environments. through the Ray Tracing, this technology will allow places with water and shiny materials to be seen with higher quality.

Due to providing global illumination at 60 FPS, the Lumen allows internal spaces to be visualized without losing lighting. The reflection of a lamp appears directly on a character's clothing or a rug, for example. See this comparison:

Another gain is in the costumes that emit light, very common in science fiction games. As Unreal Engine 5.1, Epic Games confirms that the light will bounce off nearby objects and surfaces. It is a change that seems simple, but that makes a total difference in everyday life.

Virtual shadow maps

Another improvement that arrived in the Fortnite, now developed within the Unreal Engine 5.1, is that every brick, leaf and modeled detail will have its own shadow to make the gaming experience even more real. This image below shows the graphical difference:

The virtual shadow map also allows character objects to now have their own shadow: details of hats, sunglasses and other accessories now appear in the final experience to deliver greater accuracy in matches.

Temporal super-resolution

Finally, this technology is focused on avoiding the famous jaggies that can appear due to some graphic processing error. THE Epic Games cites that temporal super-resolution will deliver high frame rates and a high quality in battle royale mode matches.

Also called TSR, this upscaling solves the old problem and that, unfortunately, is still seen by games that do not adapt to current technologies.

A Epic Games points out that the new features that improve the graphics need to be activated manually and of course: good performance depends on the gamer setup available. A good video card, along with a good processor and monitor are the perfect combination for the news to be seen in practice.

What's New in Fortnite Chapter 4

Like every release of a new chapter of battle royale da Epic Games, a new map was made available to all players and the developer points out that due to the new graphics engine, the game's destruction animations have become even more detailed. This was also possible due to the reduction in the number of assets used by the game, which helps with loading and reduces the processing load.

Fortnite Chapter 4 also brought new skins for famous pop culture characters. O Doom slayer, from the famous DOOM, is available on page 5 of the Battle Pass, and comes equipped with a Cacodemon Glider, a rifle skin inspired by the weapons of Doom Eternal, the executioner's mark as a backpack, a emote inspired by the “mini-executor” of Doom Eternal , and more.

Fortnite in 4K powered by the RTX 4090

Released October 12, 2022, RTX 4090 it is the current consumer dream of many gamers and professionals who work with content creation and projects that require good photo and video processing at the same time.

And to prove that the new bet of NVIDIA really manages to get further without much effort, the channel 12th hour recorded a video of almost 6 minutes showing how the experience of playing Fortnite in 4K without lags, crashes or any other problem. Watch:

In addition to the resources available due to Unreal Engine 5.1, the RTX 4090 manages to deliver support for the DLSS, but Epic Games decided to disable support for this technology to show how their TSR technology upscaling it works in practice and for some users, even more accurately.

As TSR is native to the graphics engine, it is easier to provide support and, above all, implement improvements more quickly. Developers report that support for TSR is easier to implement than DLSS and RTX Ray Tracing.
